Need advice on new skis

Skimom

Hi! I'm new here and was hoping to get advice on what skis to purcase. I'm 40 years old, 5'2", 120lbs, I've been skiing for 5 years, mostly blue terrain, some black, some trees, some bumps. I've been looking at K2 one luvs. Last spring I demo'ed the Rossignol Bandit B3 skis and I liked them, but I didn't purchase because I wanted to explore other skis and try for a better deal off season. I'm also not sure of what size to get. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome Skimom!

Well it's sounds like you ski a variety of terrain so I may recommend to you a high end all mounain ski-all the companies make really good products now. Get out and demo, demo, demo!!

As far as sizing goes I wouldn't go too long or too short-something in the 153-160 range.Alot of ski ski differently at different lenghts so try a few out.Personnaly I like a short slalom ski as my main ski-however it can be a bear in the bumps.A longer ski might also be a challenge in the trees and bumps but great on hardpack-I see you are based in Denver so the skiing there is quite different from the east.Maybe something with a liitle more under foot so you can float on those powder days.Again you need to demo to find the right ski for you! I hope this helps!! T

First boots!
make sure you have good boots fitted for you. Then demo as many skis as you can to find out what interests you.

You may find different manufacturers have different feels and will benefit from trying stuff from each.

IF I were to point you in one direction specifically, I'd say try the Nordica Olympia victory, or the Elan perla. Both have had good reviews and personally I was impressed with the Nordica, and Elan line up.

As for Rossi's, I was not overly fond with the feel of them.

I sound like a broken record :-)

Demo, demo, demo, demo, and demo!

Skis that work for some may not work as well for others. While there really aren't any 'bad' skis anymore, some will fit your style, personality, technique, and ability level better than others. Take out lots of skis in from different manufacurers in different lengths - both men's and women's - then buy the one that makes you grin from ear to ear!

In the gear review forum, there's a demo report card.....print a bunch, take them with you, and make tons of notes. You don't necessarily have to buy the day you demo, but many places will apply your demo fee to your purchase, or they may sell their demo fleet at the end of the year - you can then purchase the exact ski that you fell in love with, usually at a huge discount.

As an aside.....be sure that you have good quality, appropriate, professionally and properly fitted boots.....this will affect your skiing MUCH more than the skis. If you're in a money crunch, as many of us are, spend your money here and buy used skis.

Geez oh peets. SnowHot and I are posting at the same time again ;-)

I must agree with a proper fitting boot-without that no ski is going to perform to it's true ability!! T

As mentioned to someone else, some of us got a head start last year and were able to demo 2008 stuff. Check through the gear reviews and make a list of what might interest you. Make sure you're using 8 1/2 x 11 paper as that list is likely to be long. And to echo the rest - Boots must fit!!

Hi SkiMom,

Check out Outdoor Divas at North Cherry Creek. They have a great bootfitter and good prices on skis.
