My journey back to health

Had my first weight work out with my trainer today. Some of weights were a little light. I'm having issues with the muscles in my left shoulder. I have massage therapist working on that.

My trainer likes to do a lot of body weight exercises. So a whole gym is not necessary. We did figure out how to put a TRX up in my basement without a lot of work.

I did my Exit stress test today. I got a certificate after it and a meeting with the physio lady.

Guess I graduated!

Our only concern right now is my low Hemoglobin and Hemacrit counts. So off to another specialist.
Sure hope to see you on the slopes this winter!

Congratulations on the graduation!

I ended up getting iron infusions after my second surgery. My hematologist set that up. I definitely got better color and felt stronger after that. I hope your people find simple and effective solutions.

I've been having issues with my left shoulder. Cardiologist stated no paddling this summer. So that's not it.
Last week, went in for X-rays and ultrasound. Partial tear of the rotor cuff. Seeing family doctor on the 12th. So don't know really how bad, except getting my arm around to undo my bra is a painful chore.

If there is surgery, hopes is arthro and not a full blown. I had enough of that with my heart valve. I'll keep you posted.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you that it is something that can be managed with physical therapy versus surgery. ☹️

So sorry to hear this, Jilly! As if you haven't been through enough. Hope they'll be able to make a quick, easy, and pain-free repair.

@Jilly - That sucks! DH starts PT tomorrow, for something he is very much hoping does not involve his rotator cuff.

I recommend not wearing a bra!! Kidding/not kidding. If something hurts with a partial tear, I think you have to stop doing that something. But hey, I'm just an eye doc! You could spin the bra around to unhook it, or get a front closure, or a pull up stretchy one, or my personal advice, skip the bra.

I had a nearly complete rotator cuff tear from skiing at age 28. Fell forward flat when I hit gravel on a cat track at Waterville Valley. Had no surgery, just PT and a very, very gradual but complete recovery. At the beginning, it even hurt to put my arm into a shirtsleeve or cardigan. It was my left shoulder too. Could not roll my car window down for 6 months; had to reach across with right hand to do that and to throw in the dime for the toll booth I passed through each way to and from work. How times have changed!!!

All joking aside, I hope you get a good response to whatever treatment is recommended.

Roll your car window down? The dime for the toll booth?
A little history . . .

There have been toll automobile highways in the east since the 1940s. The Pennsylvania Turnpike was a toll highway when it opened in 1940. The NJ turnpike dates from the early 1950s. The "Mass Pike" was built in the 1950s. Growing up in NYC, it was fun going through toll booths when my family went to visit friends in NJ and/or PA. Most of the toll booths have been removed in the last decade as electronic tolling became the norm.

I understand toll roads, though we don't have them near me. BUT, growing up in San Francisco, we had the Golden Gate Bridge which used to be $.25 that you would throw in the basket at the "toll booth."
And yes, plenty of folks missed.

Pushing the door open can sometimes hurt.
Toll roads around here are electronic. I have a transponder for it.

Maybe that's why in CA they call the highway the freeway, because it was free!! (except for the golden gate bridge.) In MA, CT, NY, NJ the toll roads were sometimes called "Turnpikes" because maybe at one time or theoretically there was a turnstyle to get onto the road, and you had to pay to get thru it, so it was a turnpike. Bridges also have tolls here in the northeast.

The dime I had to toss was for a short stretch Cambridge to Newton on the Mass Pike, and yes there was a basket to toss the coin into. My right arm always had better aim and didn't require sidearm or backhand throw, so even without the rotator cuff injury I threw with the right. But having to roll the window with the right as well, really slowed me down. Ha ha!! Some people with good aim could toss without really stopping.

NH toll booths required a quarter. If you were a state resident, or in the know, you could buy a roll of tokens that were half the price of a roll of quarters. So, I kept rolls of dimes, quarters, and NH tokens in the car. I still keep quarters for parking meters particularly when it's a quick errand and I don't want to use the app and pay the added fee.

Sorry, can't resist . . . I really enjoy finding out more about historical stuff.

The oldest turnpike was created in the UK in the 1600's. Turnpikes existed in a few of the original 13 states before cars did.

There is a roadside attraction in northern VA that was an old toll gate. Something like the one in this article. The gate was physically turned by the toll taker after the toll was paid.

My daughter is dealing with a strained shoulder muscle. She's a young adult who happens to be living at home at the moment. My husband messed up a rotator cuff decades ago. I know it's tough to do some day-to-day stuff with that sort of injury. My husband opted to avoid surgery. He did PT and I learned how to do a few stretches on him at home. Took a year or two, but he regained more than enough mobility to not feel that surgery was warranted.

@Jilly : we are seeing what Red Light Therapy can do to help speed up healing for my daughter. Learned about a device at the NC State Fair last week. Same company that I got a muscle stimulation system from at Snowbound Expo a few years ago. Not cheap, but can help.
