My journey back to health

Wow did a shower ever feel so good!!
I wish I'd been around for this thread when it started. I've been through the heart surgery wars twice in the last year. A whole not of not what I wanted and still dealing with some lingering post surgical crap. But the new heart valve (open heart both times) is working so that's one mental load off.

A cancer survivor friend likened the first shower after surgery as being orgasmic!! I can concur. BTW it took me about three weeks, both times, to get all the sticky adhesive crap off my skin!

Hope your healing goes fast! PS. the six weeks of no driving IS a PIA! Thank god for all my guardian angels!

You’ve been posting on SkiDiva from the hospital? Amazing! This bodes well for full recovery and return to ski, eventually. Be patient. Your body just went thru a big whomp (sophisticated medical term) after a period of deconditioning. The valve is replaced…yay! You are “yourself” and back home…yay! Sending healing vibes to your sternum and the rest of you!

So glad you're back home, Jilly! Rest and recover. You'll be back before you know it, better than ever!

So glad you're home! Best of luck with the healing process. Do don't overdo.

I sleep in a recliner quite often. It started when I got hurt and was NWB for 10 weeks. I spent 24 hours/day in that recliner. I really molded it to my butt.

For those in the medical fields, I was sent home with a complete home vitals package. My own BP cuff, Fingertip monitor and thermometer. And that damn scale. Do vitals every morning and they are sent via internet to nurses. Then a quick pic of the incision. I do a video call every other day with the program nurse. So I feel quite in touch with care. And I don't have to be in the hospital or have a bunch people in my house - like Home Care. Nothing against them, but right now, I'd rather not have them poking around.

This is a great system for those who can manage it. You are fortunate to be otherwise well enough and with it enough to do this. Some need family members to help. Home Care is better than being at a rehab hospital, which was the standard in the old days. Keep up the posts. It’s great to hear from you
