My journey back to health

It's interesting what I can and can't do. I can move my arm up in front me, not issue. I can only go to shoulder height in a lateral raise. I can grab the seat belt with a straight arm. But, not unlike the toll booth, I can't get the parking ticket out of the machine without pain. And as mentioned before, can't get the bra clasp undone behind my back.

We have system here, where if you go to an clinic that has OHIP insurance, for a fee you can get your images. Otherwise you wait for the doctor. And of course they want $$ for it. So, for $49/yr I can get all the images that have been done. So I think it's time to pay so I can see what is what. Even though I'm might not be sure what I'm looking at.

DH was a gymnast - he had rotator cuff issues when we first met, way back in the dark ages, in college. I think this is the other shoulder, though I'm actually not sure. It hasn't stopped him from playing hockey yet, although he did get his stick caught in a mash up that he said was pretty painful. The actual "injury" this time came from sleeping. He was laying on his side and said something in his shoulder just thunked and it's been sore ever since.

Oh No Jilly !!
I feel your pain as I did mine back in March on a hiking trip but scans and xrays showed no rotator cuff damage but they did find bursitis which they treated with a cortisone injection however its now worn off and I'm reluctant to get another as I had a reaction to it. I'm just in limbo with it at the moment and yup the bra struggle is real !!

I had a rotator cuff tear in college that had me swimming with one arm through part of my sophomore season. It healed w/PT and behaved itself until I was in my early 50's. Then I had no choice but to have the surgery. The surgery is simple, but the recovery and PT is awful. I hope you don't have to go that route. That said, some 15 years later I have to think about it when someone asks which shoulder it was.

I did something to a rotator cuff some years ago - don't think it was torn but there was some damage and it sure hurt. It was my right arm and made driving my car (standard shift) almost impossible. (Think I got an automatic after that!) Did physio for many months but it eventually got better.

Probably stupidly, I DID ski. I recall a very busy day in spring when I skied very happily with my right arm immobile in front of my body - one pole in my left hand. Had to sort of rebalance myself but it worked. I'm not saying I recommend this but clearly I was young(er) and foolish(er).

Wellllllll, rereading Jilly's discussion of her heart issues has me a bit anxious, as I recently noticed that my ankles were swollen. I have a cardiologist appointment in late November and will see what's going on.

Worth looking into, but it could be many things.

The last 2 weekends I've been moving my stuff into the rental condo. It's basically 2 flights of stairs from the parking lot. And in a little ice and it's just so much fun. I wear running spikes on my hikers.

But the worst is I just don't have the cardio at a level I want. I did a lot of walking, but around home, it's flat, not hills. I have hills at the cottage, but I'm not there every day. And I was reading back and @Amie H mentioned her Dad had weight issues. Check that box. The stationary bike is helping, but those who know Tremblant, it's built on the hill. So there are very few places where it's flat across.

I needed to get something fixed with my pass. So I walked down to the Customer service office. Downhill was sketchy with little pockets of ice on the sidewalk. (Refreeze over night) But the walk back was a slow haul. Not used to walking straight up a good size hill. Then I took my new skis, bindings and a boot to the store. Can't really drive there, so walked across the village and back. Back was easier, as I could put my skis on my shoulder like I usually carry them. Boot went to a grocery carrier I took the bindings over in.

So, I'm set to ski next weekend!!

This is very exciting!! So happy for you. Enjoy just being out there. Remember you've been out of practice for a whole year!

Recovery is measured in feet, not miles, @Jilly . That said, you are well on your way! I'll be so excited to hear about your first day back on snow. :ski:

I’ll tell you what I say to DH every time he leaves for hockey - have fun and be careful!
