My First Day of the Season: Okemo, 11/21

Well, not a full day, but a day nonetheless. I only skied a few hours (we went over in one car and Mr. SD had to get back. Next time, two cars), but for the first day, it was pretty good. Conditions were much better than I anticipated -- I could have even used my regular skis instead of my beat up rock skis -- but there wasn't much open, forcing everyone onto really just one top to bottom run. And it was actually pretty cold, which isn't always the case on the first day out. Still, it was snowing nicely during the first few hours. And it was good to see some people I hadn't seen since last season. Saw Tcarey out there with Cnewbound, so that was nice.

Here's my first day of the season pic:

And yes, I think I remembered how to ski!

Okemo is blowing snow like crazy, so more terrain is going to open up any minute.

The season is off to a great start! :ski2:

Wow, looks like winter out there! You look VERY HAPPY. :D

I just found out that my mid-week Okemo pass will work on Thanskgiving (Okemo's first "holiday" is 12/26) so . . . since I have nothing else to do that day and it will just cost me the gas, if conditions stay good and more terrain is open, I think I'll head up there. Ski Diva, will you be skiing that day?

 :yahoo:

That. Is. So. AWSOME!!
You look totally psyched in your pic. Congrats on your first day out. I must admit that I'm more than a bit envious. LOL My home mtn. (Gore) won't be opening until Turkey Day weekend and with work schedual I won't have a chance of being there until the following Weds!! :(

I am "contemplating" getting into the car and making a road trip to Okemo possibly this coming Monday however. I dont even care how much is NOT open....I can't take the waiting any longer!! FWIW I've NEVER skiied an opening week in early conditions so I don't really know what to expect.
I figure I owe it to myself as I have a 4:30pm appt that day to have 2 wisdom teeth pulled!! ACCKK!

Glad to hear you made it out there and had a good time...although cut short by Mr SD. :D

The epitome of a SkiDiva, see that beaming smile. It looks pretty good behind you, long and snow covered! Yey for first days! How were the fresh pencils?

Yeah for you! Congrats on your first day out. I must admit I'm a little jealous too, but still happy for you nonetheless.

Wendy,

I've been looking forward to hearing from you about opening day at Okemo. Every day the DH is looking at the pics and watching the temps.

Today really felt like winter here, cold, cold, cold. We had quite a few snow squalls, Tuesday we had flurries. They're blowing snow at Roundtop and WhiteTail in southern PA. We may try to get a few runs in Sunday IF one decides to open, but more likely it will be Thanksgiving weekend.

The way things are going conditions at Okemo should be great for our Dec 1st arrival!

Ski Diva: I can sooo picture you Terry & Crystel at Okemo. We, too, have had an awesome start in the Carolinas. I skied Monday, opening day at Sugar Mountain, open to the 3/4 station and Elke, Carol & I went Wednesday when Sugar was open to the top with fresh real and manmade snow-the best day ever there. Today we struggled through the blizzard to opening day at Appalachian Mountain, but weeelllll worth it! I have to say my best week ever in North Carolina and I plan to hit Cataloochee's reopening in the morning. Beech opens, too, but too far to go and back before ski club party tomorrow night. If this is any indication of the season to come, my gold pass ( ALL North Carolina Mountains) is my best investment ever! I am one very happy skimouse!!!!!:ski2::ski3:
And, Terry, I started today to get used to my new Vokl GS RaceTigers; they're currently faster than I am-I've ~got~ to catch up!:race:

That tell-tale smile is one I hope to wearing soon! Congrats on day #1 of your ski season! Maybe I'll see you on the slopes this season (if last year's injury isn't an issue). :jealous:
