My Computer is DEAD!

I am sitting here typing on my husband's laptop very concerned and mad about my dead computer!!!:mad2: :mad2: :mad2: I have had my computer for 1 year and 2 months. My husband sat down to go online and touched the mouse, he got a shock from it and then a message came up saying that the USB port was not being recognized, click here. The mouse was not working so he turned it off and back on again. It would not boot up, just a blanck screen. We took it in and just got a call saying that they think the Motherboard is shot and we need to take it some place else. I spent $2000 last year on this computer and now I have a feeling from the homework I have done today that I may be done. I am so mad. :mad2:

It is an ACER Aspire Computer. From what I have found today don't buy one. The company has a reputation for doing nothing for it's customers.

I will keep you posted as to how this goes.

If any of you have any advice let me know.

Oh gosh skigirl, that has got to be so frustrating! If you do end up buying a new computer, I would go with a Mac. My experience with them has been nothing short of excellent. I actually enjoy talking to their customer service peeps!

In my experience, the best laptops are made by Apple. Buy a service contract with it.

For windows machines (I own 4 because my business software isn't written for the Mac), I buy from a reputable local vendor who has the machines built for his business and then sells them to me. They come with warranties and he helps me if there's a problem so I have a real person to call (and there are rarely problems).

Bummer though. At least it's just a machine and not a horse right?

Hey skigirl sorry to hear about the puter problems....
My oldest son is a computer technician (part time as he is still in high school) at a major electronics retailer.
He has kept our Dell computer up and running beautifully for the last 5 &1/2 yrs. It is getting slow though....considering a new one soon.
His advice to me if I was to buy a brand new desktop....Macintosh - hardly ever see them come back for repairs or trouble of any kind.
He said he rarely sees the SONY laptops come in for repairs.
Too bad so far away I'd get him to help you out. Best of luck with Acer and their customer service.

There is hope. Today the guy that is working on my computer is sure he can fix it!!!:yahoo: I hope to get out of it for around $300 which is a lot less than $2000 for a new one.

The guy fixing it said it was the Static Electricity Shock that killed it, so be very aware of this every time you touch your computer. He said he killed one of his computers by touching it with his vacuum cleaner!

If the computer is good, you don't need no service contract!

I, too, have a Acer, bought on the recommendation of a colleague. I'm also not impressed by it. So I won't be paying ANY attention to the recommendation of that particular co-worker either. It's that bad.

I've only had it for less than a year. I hope it last longer than yours.

All my past computers were from Dell, the oldest had been running since 2001. I passed it onto my Mom at 2005, at which time it replaces her computer bought at 1997!!!

I have my computer back!!:yahoo: It only cost me $329, which is a lot better than a new one. The place that fixed it was great.

It was the static electricity shock that killed the mother board, it went right through the mouse. Be careful every time you touch your computer. I had no idea that you could kill a computer that easily.

If something like this happens to your computer don't bother taking it back to the store they will just charge you and tell you they can't fix it. :mad2: Take it it to a place that actually fixes computers.
