Ski Diva Extraordinaire
So we decided to commemorate Memorial Day by going skiing. It had rained at our Mountain house on Hood yesterday; I checked the Timberline website and the webcams were promising. So we decided to go.
Palmer and the Magic Mile were open, and the summer training season has begun. During one of our break stops, we watched a group work a slalom course. We didn't do Palmer--hubby and I are NOT up to Black Diamond status yet, but we can sure swing the easy blues like the East Mile. Got up there at 7:30, and we were on the slope by 8.
The snow was an interesting study in contrasts, with the top of the Mile being softer than the lower end (due to fog and clouds). We never did see the clouds break to the west so we could see down to Portland, but the clouds broke to the east, and we could see down the Cascades all the way to Bachelor!
We broke off at noon, when the snow was really, reeeaally getting soft and slushy. Timberline is running Palmer and the Mile from 7-1:30 right now; I'd say get there at 7 and ski until 11:30, 12 at the latest, at least for the Mile. Palmer may be a different story, but we're not doing that one this year.
And the climbers to the top of Hood looked like a veritable ant trail creeping down...good grief there were a lot of them.
