Some of you here know that I had scheduled a clinic with Mermer Blakeslee, to make up for one that was canceled last year because of horrible weather. I've been really excited about it. Mermer is a PSIA examiner and selector for the PSIA Demo Team. Plus she's the ski industry expert on fear and the author of "In The Yikes Zone" -- and I do have some head issues.
I had the women lined up: three other women, in addition to me. I had the place: Killington. And I had the day: today. Here's what happened: two of the women canceled -- one because of illness, and one for serious personal reasons. Okay, a small setback. But we'd do it, anyway. Hey, it'd be fine.
Then I began checking the weather. I started getting concerned when they said 40° and 80% chance of rain for today. Well, sometimes they're wrong, right?
Not this time.
Not only did we get rain, but we got sleet, fog, wind, slushy snow, you get the picture.
No way was I going to cancel again! The three of us went out: Me, my friend, and Mermer. And we lasted til all of about 11:30. We couldn't see. We got soaked. So at 11:30, we quit.We just couldn't take it anymore.
But I did get a couple hours of instruction, which was good. Mermer is an awesome instructor and an extremely nice person. We worked at rounding our turns and slde slip pivot turns, which can come in handy on steeps and in moguls. So even though the clinic was abbreviated, it was worth doing.
Next year, we'll try again. Think we'll be three for three?

to the weather, which I will confirm from this region is far from ideal for anything snow/outdoor-related. New England's January thaw is a bit late this year, somehow making the below zero temps of last month seem idyllic by comparison.
