Probably doesn't apply for this season in terms of deciding on a multi-resort pass, but here are projected opening dates for well known locations on one multi-resort pass or another that typically are consider by travelers who are restricted to holidays for ski trips by school or work. This is not meant to be a comprehensive list. Clearly snowmaking is important for all of these resorts. Thanksgiving is Nov. 22, 2018.

May not apply to many Divas but the price is about to go up for the Epic Australia pass that applies to the 2019 season at Perisher. Deadline is Oct. 22, 2018. Apparently possible to upgrade to an Epic pass that includes unlimited access to places like W-B and Vail.

Looks like the last day to buy an Epic pass for 2018-19 is Nov. 18. I guess that's normal but haven't paid attention before.

Interesting to review how things changed since this thread was started when it was totally unknown what Alterra would do for a multi-resort pass. As of Oct 2018, the Holding family ski resorts—Sun Valley and Snowbasin—are the only MCP destinations not also on Ikon for 2018-19.

Vail Resorts finally completed the purchase of Triple Peaks in the fall. But didn’t really make a difference for Epic passes since Crested Butte, Okemo, and Sunapee were included even before the buy-out was made public.

Zrankings updated their article comparing Ikon to Epic in August 2018. The only region where buying Epic might be the obvious choice is the midwest. At least for people who are close enough to one of the three midwest ski areas owned by Vail Resorts (Afton Alps, Mt. Brighton, Wilmot). But with Boyne Mountain and Boyne Highlands added to Ikon in late August, that changed the situation for folks in Michigan at least. Perhaps folks in Chicago and northern Indiana as well. For folks in the southeast or the DC/NoVA region, Ikon is the most likely choice if driving to Snowshoe for an overnight stay is of interest once or twice.

Now that the season is starting in the northern hemisphere, Alterra and Vail Resorts seem to be looking at the international scene to get a few more people to buy a pass for 2018-19 before most resorts open. Alterra added New Zealand. VR announced new locations in Europe with a couple days to go before sales for 2018-19 Epic passes stop for good. Ikon will be on sale for a few more weeks.

Vail Resorts Press Release
14 November 2018
  • Vail Resorts expands access to seven consecutive days of skiing at Les 3 Vallées in France and Skirama Dolomiti Adamello Brenta in Italy with no restrictions, resulting in 26 days of European access
  • The Epic Pass is the ONLY multi-resort pass to offer significant access to European resorts
  • In one year, the Epic Pass has added access to 20 world-class resorts, inviting guests to experience an unprecedented total of 65 resorts throughout eight countries for $949, offering unlimited, unrestricted access to North America’s best resorts including Whistler Blackcomb, Vail, Park City and Breckenridge
  • The last chance to buy the 2018-19 Epic Pass is Sunday, Nov. 18.

Interesting to find a comparison of Epic vs Ikon in the Vail Daily in early Nov 2018. They came up with a comparison graphic as of Nov. 1 that probably will apply to 2017-18. At least it seems unlikely there will be more announcements of acquisitions or new partnerships.

Epic stopped sales on Nov. 18. Ikon sales continue until Dec. 13.
