We went up to Mount Snow for our first day of the season today.
The short trip report: Probably the best early season (pre-Thanksgiving) day I've ever had.
The longer trip report: They had 2 top-to-bottom runs open today, the Canyon to Standard route on the main face and Long John to something over on Carinthia. We spent the morning on the main face. From 8 to 10 or so it was just a fantastic WR, really good conditions, not crowded at all. From 10 to 11 or so it approached WROD status, but never got crowded enough to get all the way there. As the morning wore on it got a little icy on top and a little slushy on the bottom, but the overall excellent cover and the fact that I was skiing a top-to-bottom run on Nov 11th kept me from minding too much.
After an early-ish lunch we took the car over to the Carinthia base and spent the afternoon over there (the 2 runs aren't connected, unfortunately). This run is their "freestyle terrain". We played around on the boxes a bit and enjoyed the feature-free cruiser that made up the bottom half of the run. I found out after we got home that they got Chute (on the north face) opened up at some point during the afternoon, but we never made our way back over there.
But anyways, if you're itching to get on skis and can make the trip to Mt. Snow, it's 100% worth it right now.
I've got some pictures up here. I forgot to take a picture of my helmet, but it's got a Ski Diva sticker on the back of it now, above the Mountain Reviews one that was already there. Say hi if you see me around! :D
