More women hitting the golf course

I guess I've become a statistic. I started lessons in 2023 so I'm one of the 1.5 million female growth from 2022 to 2024

Nearly 7.9 million girls and women are teeing up and transforming the game-up from 6.4M just two years ago. From junior leagues to global tours, women’s golf isn’t just growing, it’s thriving, diversifying, and inspiring a new generation to swing big.

More statistics can be found at National Golf Foundation

Also, I'd like to point out that the Unbreakable Female Athlete(source of the graphic is worth following on IG and FB.

I was golfing a little over a week ago with two different women. When I showed up, the one woman said, "Those shoes are really cute. Where did you find them?"
Another woman said, "I love that hat with the ponytail spot. I need one of those" Thanks to @Susan L for the recomendation.

I don't consider myself a vain person, but... Dang it was nice to chat with other women and exchange ideas on golf gear from clothing, to shoes, to clubs, and even sun hats.

Since I mostly golf with guys, this is something I didn't realized I missed.

I took a lesson package pre-pandemic thinking I might take it up. Loved the lessons, did very well, but the summer heat and the bugs kept me from pursuing it. Plus, I was still riding horses at the time and didn't need ANOTHER expensive hobby!!

I had a lesson today and boy oh boy did it mess up my swing. Playing a round of golf tomorrow to see how I can put it into play.

I think the take away from the lesson is going to improve my distances but I have some work to do to get it dialed in.

What were the distance takeaways?

The big takeaway is to increase the rotation in my hips (and shoulders) with a stronger follow through.

I don't expect to gain distance right away because some of it feels awkward at the moment, but when it sets in, I expect good things.

If there's a local chapter of LPGA Amateurs in your area, check them out. I've been a member of the Nashville chapter for 13 yrs, and we have a different league almost every day of the wk. I've been playing on Wed afternoons (9 holes) at the same muni course for all that time (in addition to playdates at other courses, and local courses, as well), with many of the same women. We've really formed a bond -- it's so much fun to play with the same group and watch everyone grow their skills.

I envy all of you who can go out and play/cobble together a game. I've been at it for the last year and 9 months in I started developing some consistency and then my coaches broke my swing by trying to add rotation and changing the sequencing (which is needed but ugh) so I'm back to not being able to play on course at all.

I have to laugh at this because.... I hear ya.
Even the pros have this issue. They have a game going and in the hopes of improving it, they fix until they break it.

It would be super fun to get a bunch of us together for a golf outting in the summer some time.

Right... and they have been playing a heck of a lot longer than we have and are worlds better than will ever even grasp the idea of never mind get close to.

Good things to keep in mind when we put way too much pressure on ourselves to improve quickly at this very difficult game.

The only thing I'm consistent at is being inconsistent. And I don't see that changing anytime soon, which is so unbelievably annoying but also just the reality of the situation. You might have felt like you were building consistency, but no offense, you also haven't played long enough to see it fall back apart so this might be looking at it with rose colored glasses more fondly than it deserves. That's a mind trap for disappointment, we can only play with the game we've got on any given day and it is not likely to be consistent for very long at our levels. It ebbs and flows so much, yesterday, last month, last year... they don't matter. We can only play with what we can do on any given day. It has not been at all linear from my experience or from watching lots of other women I play with at similar levels. Lots of 1 step forward and 3 steps back situations. I, and they, have great stretches and then lots of other days where it's a head scratcher as to why suddenly you start hitting a totally different miss than usual or why someone can't hit a ball to save their lives and are suddenly thinning everything or chunking everything or heck the awesome days we stripe everything like where does that come from, etc. Everyone had these days in my groups and in my leagues, some more than others, but everyone did nonetheless. I was playing 3+ days per week all summer, often with the same little group at the end, and even within the week it would vary on what people's games looked like on back to back days sometimes. I personally had a great stretch in the middle of the season where I seemed to be building some consistency for me but early and late season I struggled in different ways and now I have no idea how to get back to that lovely mid season feel. My miss was a right push much of the season then it went left at the end, currently in my weekly classes I am missing left too as I am rolling my right hand over too much too early... why? No damn idea why that switched and started happening but now I'm "consistently" doing that. I can fix it during class, and then it comes back and sneaks in. Unbelievably frustrating. Just have to keep on keeping on though and set our sights a little further down the road with less expectations hanging on the very near term I think. It took me until last season, year THREE to feel like I could play on regular courses with a lot less anxiety, but it's all far from consistent and some days sucked. Some days I didn't feel like I belonged out there at all. I think that's par for the course, but you just have to keep on going.

Just imagine if someone came up with something like Carv for golf :rotf:
