minutiae

I am often amazed at some of the never ending threads about ski gear minutiae that exist elsewhere. Women are a definite minority on these. I find them tedious and overly analytical. While not always so, it seems like many of these conversations are just a way to show 'superior' knowledge amongst the peni...uh, the male of the species.
My husband spends time on a triathlon forum and he says the bike gear threads are incredible in the same way.
Why do so few women react the same way? Genetics or environment?

I'm the wrong Diva to answer this question:p
When I buy a ski, I want to know what the running length is, the turning radius, flex, torsional flex, etc.........
I could point you to some threads on another forum where I participate in some gear discussions.
I will admit that I am not as knowledgable as most of the boyz, but I can hold my own.

I wonder if it's the same reason that many women are not as obsessed with cars as men. I want my car to be safe, drive well, fuel efficient, reliable, and work in the environment where I will use it. I don't really care about the engine size, torque, horsepower, etc.

In the same vein with my skis, I want them to work well in the conditions where I will use them, be appropriate for my abilities and give me room to grow, and just "feel right" under my feet. All the numbers and details don't mean much at all to me.

I guess for me anyway, it all boils down to how something feels rather than how something works.

And you are right, in most threads I read, the guys seem to want to one up each other on their knowledge.
