Someone on DCSki is asking about snow conditions at Montage. Paging @tinymoose .

He's thinking of going over Pres. Day weekend. Also wondering if it rains in Scranton whether it snows or rains on the slopes.
I haven't been in a few weeks. In Ohio dealing with my mother.

Looks like a warm weekend for Pres. Day. Anyone skiing in VA or WV?

I'm headed back to Massanutten but not staying long. Have to drive back on Sunday because the high schooler has a snow make-up day on Feb. 16 because of the ice storm a few weeks ago.

I'll be there as usual in my spring togs - and rain gear.
Saturday doesn't look bad. Warm spring skiing.

We're going snow tubing on Sunday morning before heading home. Can't decide whether or not to get some cheap ponchos beforehand.

Mother Nature delivered for VA and NC. In this case, WV got a little more as is usual. More snow forecast for the Pres. Day weekend. :snow:

I skied Canaan Valley and Timberline this last weekend (feb 8-9) and both were fully open with cold snow blanketing everything. Nothing brown visible. I drove back to DC through WV and MD and saw a snow-covered landscape the whole drive. Suburbs were deeply covered with high snowbanks left and right on their plowed streets. DC has had two warm days since then as I write this so spring conditions may have replaced deep winter conditions by now (Feb 12).

Glad you had great conditions in WV. Lucky!

It will be full spring conditions this weekend at Massanutten with temps in the high 40s or higher for Saturday afternoon. As long as the snowmakers can top off things a bit on Thu and Fri nights, the coverage will be great. There is a seeded bump line at the top of No Hessitation (can be seen on the webcam). Apparently bumps on Upper MakAttack too.

It's easy to see the snow that hasn't melted in the Shenandoah Valley below Massanutten from the Peak webcam. Definitely rare for the winter scene to last so long.

I'm in Northern VA and Monday was the first day above freezing in almost three weeks. The snow and ice is finally melting. Haven't seen grass in what seems like forever. The WV resorts and others have a solid base. Yes we will warm up this coming week but I'm not worried. They've got a lot to play with for a while. Our main trip this year was to VT last week (Okemo) and we had a blast. Likely to hit up the PA resorts for some day trips with our passes in the next few weeks. Would love to visit WV for a few days but we have limited PTO and now limited funds with having spent $$$ on some foundation work on the house. Ugh.

Will that be on weekends? I have an Epic 4-day pass that I may use in PA somewhere in early March.
No, aiming for random week days based on the weather. I get too nervous when others are around me so I avoid weekends when I can. Likely Whitetail or Liberty given driving time. Was hoping we'd get to Seven Springs but that would require getting lodging or staying with friends about an hour away.

I'll keep you in mind as my plans firm up. Current plan for a solo ski safari starts with checking out Liberty on a Friday. Goal is to get out to the western PA Epic resorts that I've never been to before. I skied at Whitetail and Roundtop before the three Snowtime resorts were sold to Peak Resorts.

I skied Whitetail yesterday (Thursday). Conditions were good to very good, though they still have some terrain that they've been unable to open --- persistent drought conditions = no water for snow making.

Please do! I've never been to Liberty and want to check it out. I've been told it's good for little kids and beginners, so we might take kiddo with us. Will require us to learn skiing backwards. LOL. Western PA resorts also on my list but not likely this year given limited leave with work schedule getting crazy.

I had to go to the Canadian Rockies to get warm . Came back Sunday. Went to Whitetail yesterday (Friday). Definitely Friday is the new Saturday, though maybe the holiday weekend had something to do with it. It was sunny and conditions were good.

I might try to do a midweek overnight trip to Timberline. I had a blast there in early January.

I've noticed more on Fridays as well, compounded by the long weekend I am sure. I know the 2nd Womens Day was yesterday which added more people. We love Timberline. Great runs and a great vibe. Haven't been this year since we got Epic passes for a change of scenery.

Massanutten was busy on Friday, very crowded on Saturday, much less so on Sunday. Now it is Monday at 8:25 and I’m in the parking lot with only ONE other car.

A Monday holiday is always much less crowded on the slopes. People staying on resort have to check out by 10:00am. Even years ago when fewer people thought of Mnut as a good place to ski, snow tubing tickets would sell out on Monday while the slopes were empty all day. Day tickets are regular price, not holiday price.

When we were snow tubing on Sunday morning, 10:30-noon, I could see how few people were skiing upper DJ. Of course, the fact that lower DJ was closed for the college race course meant having to exit via Slot. That may have cut down the number of people choosing DJ even more.

Yup. Unfortunately the 10am checkouts have shown up, but the morning was majikal.

The season is going to have a quick end in the southeast given the hot temps expected in the next few weeks. That said, still fun this week.

Massanutten even made a little snow last night. March 14 is the date for end-of-season fun, including a pond skim.

My last "Nutt" day was yesterday since I'm heading west x2 this month. It always makes me sad.
