Winterplace in WV closed for the day. Power outages and icy road conditions are the reasons.

Folks at Timberline seems to be having a good time, looking at the webcam.

Massanutten had plenty of folks who figured out how to get there by 9:30 or so this morning.

Welcome! Do you consider Elk your home mountain?

The first time I skied Elk was about ten years ago. I was taking my daughter up to Lake Placid where she and I went to North Country School for middle school. Temps were in single digits. We skied for about an hour and gave up. Getting up the road when leaving was a bit tricky in a minivan with basic tires. Although I managed. The men with an SUV . . . got stuck in the ditch.

The Divas I know who live in the Philly area generally go to Montage for local skiing. Paging @Olesya C , @tinymoose .

Hi, I'm in Delaware county and I have IKON so I would go to Blue mtn if I didn't know it was changing over to mix and opening later. I've skied Elk many times and IMO it's the best mountain in PA even at 2 1/2 hour drive from home. Tomorrow is going to be epic up there!

Have fun at Elk and it should be great there. I went out and shoveled the car in the parking lot here in Lehighton and the snow was light and fluffy but did seem to be turning to sleet a little bit. No freezing rain here though yet. Where do you stay at Elk? I saw a BnB near the mountain but when I stayed previously at a hotel, it was still a 20 min drive and I thought just that drive could be challenging. Hope you have a great time!!

Snow conditions look great at Massanutten from the webcams. It's so cold that the conveyor loading for the two base chairlifts won't be running. Have been issues in the past when temps were below 25 with the automatic gates. As of 10:30am, it's 10 degrees at the top and the high won't go much over 28 even with the sun out.

Massanutten always does a School's Out special for locals who don't have a season pass or their own gear: $35 lift ticket, $25 gear rental.

Wintergreen is open and looks busy. Bet there are people who drove up before the storm and are staying longer because central VA schools are out. Last week there was a 40% off lodging package for the storm long weekend.

Bryce looks closed. The latest Ops update on their website is from Jan. 24.

Conditions have been spotty at The Nutt. On Monday the first two runs were great and then deteriorated down to moonscape. Yesterday was fabulous, I hear, but very cold. Some folks only lasted 90 minutes. I'm still in The Nutt, but I have to work today online . . . I'm also babying a sore knee that wasn't helped by 5 hours of shoveling. The Nutt has done an amazing job w/the roads, but, alas, they don't do driveways.

Looks like there could be snow in the NC and VA mountains this weekend.

Massanutten and Wintergreen are open, with daytime temps in the single digits!

Wow! May not get above freezing during the day for an entire week at Massanutten. Night time lows are forecast for the teens or even single digits.

Get the feeling there won't be any snowmaking until after it warms up. The snowmaking ponds won't be refilling with melted snow any time soon. Mnut is 100% open again with Upper MakAttack re-opened. Only No Hessitation is showing Bumps on the snow conditions webpage.

The arctic air is going way south in the next few days. Brad Panovich, TV meteorologist in Charlotte, NC, is talking about "Carolina powder." More expected in the NC mountains than WV this time. Brad is a skier who takes a trip out west almost every season. He's been doing a weekly forecast video for SkiSoutheast during the season for a while.

It's been over 15 years since I've taken my daughter to explore the ski resorts in the NC mountains. We went to Beech the most, partially to meet up with folks from SkiSoutheast. This morning Beech had 4 inches of fresh snow when the lifts opened a bit early and it was snowing steadily. Being Saturday, that means Sugar will also have a crowd since it's easier to reach. Both Beech and Sugar have had lift served skiing for over 50 years.

Looking around the Beech website, I found the deals available on a weekly basis for night skiing. That's been a popular option in the southeast for decades. Having lights on after 4pm or so means that families bringing young kids after school don't have to quit at 4:00 or 4:30. Makes it easier to get in 2-3 hours before heading home for dinner. These days, LED lights use a lot less energy and provide better light.

Have never bothered to check out the webcams for Ober in TN before. It's been snowing there all night and still going strong. People at the base are walking in boot deep snow. The base cam automatically zooms and pans around the entire base area, including the snow tubing. Ober was able to open tubing at Thanksgiving because they have 14 snow boxes, mostly Latitude 90, for making snow in temps well above freezing. The new owner really put some money into upgrades in recent years. They may end up at 100% open for one of the longest seasons ever.

The NC ski areas also got plenty of natural snow. Afterwards temperatures were well below 15 degrees in the morning when skies were clearing. WV ski areas are included as well, even though they only got an inch or two from the latest storm.

It's not a trip report, it's a tour for people who don't realize how many webcams exist in the southeast. Most of them were put up because Mike Doble has been sharing info about skiing in the southeast for decades. His IT company provides the support for the hardware and software to many of the resorts. He enjoys sharing the views. His written posts ramble just as much, but can be fun to read.

I met Mike and his family long ago when SkiSoutheast was the only ski forum I was active on. My daughter and I skied with them a bit at a SkiSE Summit at Snowshoe.

Mother Nature delivered for VA and NC. In this case, WV got a little more as is usual. More snow forecast for the Pres. Day weekend.

I'll be at Massanutten with teen and daughter over Pres. Day weekend. We can't stay long but still worth the drive with the current snow conditions. The teen was happy to get a snow day last Monday, but that means a make up day on Feb. 16. I'm glad it won't be frigid, as it was over MLK weekend.
