I'm looking for a good quality, men's down vest to get my DH for Christmas. Anyone have any recommendations or ideas?

Lands' End has nice ones -- and lots of color choices. Just picked one up for DH on a "deal of the day" thing from LE. I think it was a whole $19.50. Even their regular prices are reasonable. Speaking from the one I wear all winter/every winter, they hold up pretty well, too!

I have the MEC (a Canadian version of REI) rendition of the down sweater that altagirl mentioned (in the women's version). Truly lightweight and warm. I wore it this morning up to work - 17 degrees outside. I just had a turtleneck and the down sweater on and I was just fine.
I would imagine the Patagonia vest would be very nice. It can be worn standalone or, due to it's bulk, or lack thereof, as a nice layering piece. If you can afford it, I would go for that one.
