Mary Tyler Moore Show

Does anyone remember the Mary Tyler Moore show? It was a favorite of mine, ran from 1970 - 1977, when I was ages 11-18. I've been renting the entire series from Netflix and I'm ending the 3rd season now. It's amazing how progressive that show was for the times and what great role modeling it was for women. I now realize that Mary was probably an important single professional role model for me. It's a funny show though corny at times, and I'm having fun watching it. Georgette just came on the scene. Remember her?

Netflix only has the shows through the 4th season, so I'm gonna have to wait until the rest come out on DVD. I don't watch current TV (except "What Not to Wear" on Friday nights), so this is a fun way for me to get some light entertainment. In the past few years, I have watched the DVDs for the following shows: Star Trek: Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Gilmore Girls, Sex and the City, Weeds, and one more show that I won't admit on a public forum that I watched on DVD!:becky:

I loved the shows of that era.
My personal favorite Bob Newhart!
When they had the Newhart show in Vermont in the 90's I didn't miss it!! Laugh my Butt off!

Ooooo, I used to love The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Even today I find certain newscasters remind me of Ted Baxter. A funny, intellligent program. Not many of those around.

DVDs are great ways for catching up on shows you've missed or just plain miss. I recently watched the entire Rome series that'd been on HBO -- more violent and brutal than my usual fare, but good nonetheless. And I watched The Sopranos the same way (as you can tell, I don't get HBO). A truly fantastic show.

I liked Rhoda and her sister who always said, "But Ro."

also, I still recognize the "mary tyler moore show" font !!! Every once in a while I'll see it on a sign or magazine ad and say "That's the MTM show font!" Then someone looks at me like I'm crazy.

Snowhot I have to agree with you about Bob Newhart. I still think he's one of the funniest comedians around. It just proves you can be funny without being vulgar (like many of today's comics.)

That is so weird! I have also been renting all the old MTM shows from Netflix and LOVING them. I am now in season 2. Too bad they don't have the later episodes, and I also wish they had the "Rhoda" show on DVD.
Whatever happened to good sitcoms anyway? The newer ones bore me to tears.

I rarely watch sitcoms myself. I've been watching so much baseball this season that I don't even know what the sitcoms are. Sometimes I watch Meerkat Manor (animal planet) but it gets too DEPRESSING. (Mozart died last week)

Do you ever watch old stuff with Bob, Harvey Korman, and Tim Conway? They leave me in Stitches!:ROTF:

I LOVED MTM!!!! Still Do!

When in NYC, I just have to throw my hat in the air!

Another favorite of mine....THAT GIRL!!!! I Love that! Still get the catchy little tune in my head every now and then! (AND the MTM tune!)

The MTM show song could DEFINITELY be a Diva Theme Song!

Ski Now Work Later -- We've already pm'ed about being of the same vintage. I loved MTM. My mom was widowed when I was 12. When she went back to work, Mary and Rhoda were our heroines. Their dates were incedibly funny and so unsuccessful! Here's to Chuckles the Clown and being stuck in a store window!
