Walking up to the gondola at Tremblant this morning I spied - TENTS!! Demo's!! Yeah!!
I need to replace my Z5's from Rossi. They have 150 ski days on them, and most hard - 2 level 3 courses and many days keeping up with the boys!!
Me: CSIA 2 instructors working on 3. Finesse skier who likes the groomed, crud and bumps. 5'5, 160lbs.
First up - Rossi - I've been wanting to try the CS70 as its dimension are close to the Z5, but stiffer. I actually ended up on the WC 9S oversized in 154. Same ski as the CS70, different top sheet. Well these guys are stiffer. First run down a blue (Beauchemin) to test them out. Short turns good, medium turns good, long turn a bit of a challenge. Up to the top and over to a black (McCulloch). Groomer with a few small bumps. Too stiff for the bumps for me. And I found on the hardpack they were stiff. These skis are a tuned down race ski. So back to the tent. I asked about the Z10, but they didn't have it in a 154. And they didn't have the Z6 that replaces my Z5's either. So off to another tent!!
Atomic - I've been trying to get the Heaven's Gate all week to demo at the store. And they were there at 157!! So off I go. Almost the same routine. A blue to see what these things do (Beauvallon). Going up the TGV I run into another lady that is demo'ing too the same ski, same length. So we talk on the way up. I leave her to test the ski on a black (Tashereau) I'm impressed. The ski holds well on the hardpack. Doesn't seem to have a speed limit, but I test that lower down. And light. Compared to the Rossi, it seems pounds lighter. Much different that the old B5's. Lower down on Biere-en-Bas I did a bit of speed run. (I like to scare the beginners!). The arc was solid, release great and held at speed. I want these guys for a whole day.
We had to leave to go home early, but I'm going to try for the Salomon Opals from our local shop for next weekend. Then maybe also try to get the Heaven's Gate from the store to demo all day!!

Atomic Heaven's Gate!
Didn't those things just sing and DANCE?
They definitely were the ride of the day for me at demo day last month.
