Looking to get into Skier Cross....

I am a 23 year old female, I love to ski fast and I love head to head competition. I think I would enjoy skier cross, and I just signed up for a local race.....long story short, I'm interested in getting some new skis that would be good for SX.

I recently invested in some decent boots (Lange Exclusive 100s), but I'm afraid my skis are too slow (K2 One Luvs, 167cm). I figure that I need to update my skis anyway, and why not get some that will work for SX......Or maybe I'm crazy and I'm the one the needs to get faster, not my skis!

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.....I'm 5'7, 140#, if that matters. THANK YOU!!!

No advice how to get into it, but if I were your age, might be something I'd do. Was watching the Winter X games yesterday, boy that Aspen Skier Cross track had it's share of drama...both men and women. Good luck on your quest!

I absolutely love to watch skiercross, so if you do it, you've got a fan right here. I'm excited to see it at the next Olympic games. Good luck! Definitely something I'd do if I were younger. Sorry I have no advice.

Don't know for sure about the One Luv, but both SnowHot and I found that the Luvs that we've tried had a definite speed limit that you'll find very quickly during skiercross. I'd bet that your length would be OK, but you'll want to find a more race-oriented ski. There are "skier-cross" specific skis out there: Atomic SX series, Dynastar Skier Cross series, and the Volkl Supersport series, but any of the modified race or "beer league" skis will work. Look for something with race construction and a turn radius of around 16-18 meters. You're gonna want something fairly stiff to withstand the speed and jumps you'll encounter.

I'm on the Dynastar Ski Cross series now, and I'll vouch for their quickness. Mad edge grip too.
