Question: Looking for bump skis (twin tips)

Brookline bumper

Diva in Training
I am looking to purchase a pair of twin tips or bump skis but have no clue what is a good ski for my type/ability. Last year I bought the Nordica Firefox's. They are great for carving and speed but really heavy (integrated bindings) and very stiff. I took them to mogul camp this summer and had a lot of difficulties on them. Does anyone have a recommendation for some skis?

I have a pair of Hart Lady Twins for sale. You can read my review of them here: https://www.theskidiva.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5737

Sorry, you can't get to the listing yet, but post up if you're interested.

Otherwise, pretty much any of the twins in the 70-85mm waist category are fairly good mogul skis....the K2 PE is widely available for pretty cheap.

Volklgirl is quick on the draw today!

I'm also going to chime in with the K2 PE, or Public Enemy. I have these in a 159cm, and they are a nice all-over type ski. They actually make bumps easier for me. (My formative skiing years were out east, where bumps were usually too icy and treacherous)
The PE is decent on the hardpack, and not bad in powder up to about 6-8". A fun, forgiving ski. They haven't changed for the last few years (except for graphics), and you can still find deals on leftovers.

We could be more helpful if you described your ability.

Didn't they stop making the PE's this year? Did they replace them with something else?

Anywho, MH has the PEs and loves them. I have the women-specific counterpart, the MissDemeanor. I haven't skied them yet, waiting for bindings! But I got a sweet deal on last year's model.

Also, last year's MissConducts are on sale on SierraSkis for $150. Woot!

Def give us more info about your ability & size. Happy to help! :becky:

You are correct! It looks like the K2 Extreme is the replacement for the PE this year. Same tip/waist/tail, same twin tip, same available lengths.

I guess I didn't give enough info the first time but what you all have said is definitely helpful. I ski primarily in the east coast with a trip out west once or twice a year. I'm not heading into the trees yet and still trying to work on my skills in the bumps. I'd say I spend half my day in the bumps. I was curious to know what you thought of the missdeamnors and the missconducts? I'm 5'4 and 140 pounds. Currently I ski a 156 but didn't know if I should be skiing a longer ski in twin tips. Any thoughts?

I have the MissDemeanors in a 167. I love them in the bumps. They are soft enough to absorb the trough, but have plenty of pop to push you into your next turn. On hard pack, they do get chattery though, so I would recommend a try before you buy.

I wish I could give you more advice on the MDs & MCs, but I haven't skied either yet. I'm an advanced skier and almost bought the MCs because of that amazing deal, but then the MDs went on sale...lol. The MDs are more my level, so I decided to go with them. Overall, they seem pretty comparable; the MC seems to be more forgiving.

Also, I am 5'6.5" and I got the MD in a 164, and they seem plenty long for me. I ski a 158 carver. But I'm also a lightweight, so I tend to ski slightly shorter skis than my height would imply.

you say you have the missdeamenors in 167. how tall are you? I'm only 5'4" and I think they come in 164 and 169.

Yes, mine are 2007, so before they changed the sizing. I am 5' 7" and ski the 167 in all of my K2 skis. My understanding of K2 sizing is that the twins ski pretty true to length. When I put my 167 Missies next to my 172 Line Pandoras there doesn't seem to be 5cm difference between the two.

I'm 5'5" and 130 lbs, I ski the 159 Public Enemy. Not going to pretend I can ski bumps because I can't, but these skis make me feel like I have a chance sometimes! Haha. This year's extreme is pretty much the PE minus the p-tex top sheet, they look so cool : ) Have not skied the Missdemeanor, but Considering it's a women's ski I would probably go up a couple of lengths if I was going to buy them to compensate for a less stiff ski and such.

I demoed the 164 PE and it was fine, demo bindings were heavy, but I could ski them ok. Basically I went w/ the 159 for the sole purpose of a tad more maneuverability in the trees. It makes a difference in my head, don't think it really matters on the hill : ).

They do have a speed limit on perfectly groomed and/or hard pack aka ice days. It really has not been an issue though considering that wasn't what I really bought them for. I would have gone up in length if that was their sole purpose probably. They handle everything on the mountain very well. I skied them exclusively for several months last year in just about all east coast conditions.

They are so much fun in bumps and fresh snow though, the rebound is great! Very forgiving, mine are mounted at +2.5, don't know if they changed the marks on the MD.

Brookline - I wanted to let you know that the MDs and the MCs are on sale at evogear.com and there is an additional 20% off coupon code through tomorrow. Pretty sweet...MDs for 180ish, and the MCs would be under 100 with the code. It's almost irresistable!
