As those who have followed the story of Taos in recent years know, Jean Mayer's St. Bernard Hotel has been closed not just because of the pandemic in recent years. The long term plan for the St. Bernard were announced recently. Details are in a video on the Taos Ski Valley website. Jean's daughter provided the introduction. In short the deck and diningroom will be recreated very carefully. The existing buildings will be replaced, with construction slated for 2023 and 2024 towards the goal of opening in 2025. There will be more rooms, with more variety, in three buildings more or less at the same location.

Jean Mayer died in October 2020. His younger brother, Dadou, died in August 2022. The Mayer brothers and their parents from France were key people in the development of Ernie Blake's vision for Taos Ski Valley back in the 1950s and 1960s.

OMG - I hadn't realized that Dadou had died! Truly the end of an Era! Thanks so much for posting this -- I haven't been on the Taos website lately, so hadn't seen this, and was hoping that they would do something to renovate the St Bernard, rather than tear it down.

The old building was far too old to meet any current building codes.

Check out the video. The amount of effort that has gone into documenting the diningroom and bar in order to re-create them in the new building shows how much care is going into the plan.

I definitely will. Right now I'm slogging thru all the posts I've missed, LOL, but I'm making some good headway.

Here's a before and after picture of the St. Bernard, which was/will be on the snow side of the Snakedance condo building (red roofs). The Blake hotel opened in February 2017 and is behind Snakedance. Construction of the Blake took at least two years. Constructing the new St. Bernard buildings will also take a couple years. The video on the TSV website and Post #1 has diagrams of the plan.
