Ok. So today was my return visit to the 'loaf - went there for my first and only trip 2 years ago it was just wonderful/gorgeous/etc. At least that's how I remembered it - perhaps absence does make the heart grow fonder, or today was just a completely different type of day at the 'loaf.

However today was not as pleasant an experience for many reasons. First off the disappointment of not getting to meet up with MSL (and Mr MSL)! I was actually looking forward to this a lot, but now I just hope she gets healthy soon! Secondly the conditions just weren't as good as I'd hoped - this may have been my error since MSL was honest about the R* up there last week. However given their elevation and longitude (and strange little microclimate) I really expected the conditions to be better - more on this later. Lastly I was just off today. Not much else to explain that, but I will give the incriminating details.

So DH and I arrived at about 9:30ish (we'd planned for 9, but turns out that Waterville is a longer drive than I'd estimated - especially behind logging trucks! ). The weather was low thirties and partly sunny. Conditions - dust/crud/beaverballs over ice. Some soft spots but not consistent. I think I was hoping for too much, but I did not expect this much ice. I can ski it, but it's not what I go to 'loaf for.

As for me. I was just a bit off - perhaps the condition, perhaps a bit of worry from MSL's injury, but I was skiing tentatively to start out the day and my AC3s just don't like this. Coming down from the summit on ice/crud my feet were just cramping up something awful and I couldn't find a rhythm. After this trip down, went to go up one of the double chairs from the base and got bounced right off the chair - DH flipped out but I just ducked down. That was the easy part. Liftie stops the lift and then I can not get myself back upright on my skis from where I've fallen. I was sooo pissed at myself and embarrassed. I guess I shouldn't complain since it took me 4 seasons of skiing to fall off a lift, but I was soo embarassed  and glad no one other than DH was the to witness. It *was* the only fall I took all day. After this I was in a bit of a defensive mood and started charging down the mountain - at which point I figured out what I was doing wrong with the skis, but by this time we only had time to take a couple more runs. Oh well. It was a day skiing which is certainly more fun than a day working!:D

Overall a kinda downer of a day. I think I hyped it up too much in my mind. However after doing the drive back to Boston straight through I know it will be a hard trip to do if I'm not otherwise in the area. It is just soo long and draining to get from Farmington to Lewiston/MainePike. I did see two amusing things on the drive - both in Farmington (so I'm sure MSL has already seen these) - a guy riding a unicycle down the street, and a billboard proclaiming that god had decided to make Farmington his new home.
