KT Tape or Rigid for ankle support

Well gals now that our season is sort of underway in an underwhelming way the remains of my ankle injury from my Awfully Big Crash have come back to play !
Along with breaking my ankle I also strained the ligaments that run up from the ankle bone on the lateral side and thought they no longer cause pain (crikey they took a long time to get to this point!) they feel super loose and I'm finding it super hard to get on to the outside edge on that leg, there is a significant lag when I try to roll my ankle.
I'm going to tape it up tomorrow with rigid tape as that is all I have on hand at the moment but I'm wondering if KT tape might be a better option, mainly because its easier to apply but I'm concerned it might not give enough support ..... any thoughts team ??

I use KT tape for my arches (I have bad plantar fasciitis). I don't know if it'd give you the support you want though for what you describe. I wonder how your boots fit and it maybe a heel lift might help align your ankle better with the boot for both rigidity and also better connection for responsiveness?

^ boot fit check was my first thought too.

Ligaments take so !@#$ long to heal.

Boots fit great, one of my besties is my bootfitter and she's one of most highly regarded in the country (NZ).
I'm in the Atomic Redster Sti 110 with custom footbeds and heel lifts. I did try shims last season but it hurt my then really sore ankle way too much so out they came, I might sling them back in today and see if they make a difference along with taping the darn thing.

Soooooooo @#$%^&* long ..... I thought it was all healed and good to go but apparently not. I can actually see and feel the lag between my left and right when I'm sitting and trying to roll my ankles.

wish I had more to say other than ’more time’!

KT tape is great as you can stretch it varying amounts when you apply it and fine tune what support you need. Lots of YouTube on how to tape different injuries and various techniques that work for different people.

A quick update, I skied today with the rigid tape and it helped immensly but I did find it quite blocking if that makes sense, I'll grab some KT later this week and see if that works better for me. Thanks for all your input xx

KT tape helps with weakness in my peroneal tendon, old injury, gives is support. Use it when I think I need some extra help or it's sore. FWIW I did try boot canting 2 seasons ago, and well, being canted the wrong way really pissed off my tendon b/c it had to work extra hard just to get to neutral. Have been working on PT exercises to strengthen, it's a process.

Thats good to know, I got some KT tape the other day so I'll give it a go next time I go skiing. Tried the shims again the other day but nooooo my ankle does not like them one tiny bit. Hopefully just getting that little bit of extra support from the KT will help.
