Keystone Christmas 2007

Hi there, I'm new here...

I was looking for a good ski chat for quite some time...looks like I hit the google jackpot by entering ski and forum! This is a great place. Love the posts!

I just took my second trip to Keystone in December over Christmas. It was me and my 2 kids ages 10 and 4.

We flew into DIA and rented a SUV and drove to Keystone and stayed 7 nights at the Keystone Lodge. This hotel worked out so well for us in 2006 that we decided to come back again this year.

I had all my luggage Fedexed to the hotel days before and after we arrived, I called the bellmen who soon delivered it all to my room. They are really wonderful about storing it and getting it to me. I love travelling with no suitcases.

We stayed in a loft suite at the Keystone Lodge. This is a 2 story room which is really nice. There are only 14 at this hotel so you have to book them early. Downstairs is a sitting area with a couch bed and upstairs is a masterbedroom. It has a spiral staircase up. It's really neat and gives us some room.

The kids really love that every Christmas they have a chocolate village display in the lobby. You really have to come by and see it. There is whole working village complete with train and gondola and presents made out chocolate. Candy canes are in buckets for the kids. My kids just love staring at it.....salivating I'm sure.

The hotel isn't ski in/ski out. That's where the savings are. There are shuttles every 7-10 minutes that picked us up from the warm lobby to take us to the slopes. One drops us off right near the babysitting in River Run where I took the 4 year old. Then me and my son would walk over to the ski school.

We love skiing at Keystone. We find the greens and some blues are fantastic there and we enjoy easy cruising.

While my son is at ski school for a few days, I ski peacefully alone. I take advantage of the single lines on the busy holiday times however, I'm amazed at all the couples that think the "singles" line means if you're not married or something because obviously they are all in it to avoid the longer lines. However, it's making the single lines longer and they all want to ride together, defeating the purpose of the single line.

Food at the Keystone lodge is good. Breakfast is really delicious so I never miss a morning to have a big meal. Most nights I eat in the hotel or at the Italian restaurant off site near the ice skating rink which is outside the hotel. It's way too cold to get in the car once I've warmed up in the hot tub!

We also visited friends in Breckenridge at their home but we didn't ski there.

This next year we are planning on finding a different resort and need something that's closer to an airport and that is ski in/ski out. All this driving from DIA and schlepping to the lifts are really tiring! But I really highly recommend Keystone.

Welcome to the boards!

I'm glad you've had a good time here in Colorado and hope that you find a resort that fits your desire for less travel time as well. It sounds like Utah would be a good place for you to look into.

I am going to address the single line comment though. I frequently use it, even if I am skiing with a friend. It's purpose is not only to allow singles not to stand in the big line but also to fill in when there are 2 or 3 person chairs. If I'm willing not to ride with my friend then I don't see a problem.

A lot of hotels/resorts in Vail will pick you up at the Eagle Airport in Eagle, CO (only about 15-10 minutes from Vail). There are many ski and ski out lodges, but I have a favorite in Vail...The Tivoli Lodge!

Check it out...and welcome to The Ski Diva! :D

Awesome - I lived in Denver for two years and enjoyed Keystone especially with family. Breckinridge is another resort in Colorado to check out. We now live in Anchorage Alaska.
Also - my family and I (we have twin girls ages 7 years old) really enjoy Sun Valley. Kids ski free when you stay at the Sun Valley Lodge or Inn. Good ski school and Instructors at all skiing levels. Great deal and lots of fun skiing Enjoy!
