K2 one luv vs burnin luv

Hey everyone,

I'm new here and from reading a few threads think some of you might be able to help me! as it looks like some of you have these skis. I'm looking to buy some skis as I'm getting to the point where I think it will be worth it, and I've seen some deals where it will actually be cheaper to buy and transport skis than rent them this year!

I haven't demoed any skis, because there is nowhere near me that I can demo any unfortunately :-( I have looked around and spoken to the people in snow and rock and I like the K2 range, but am not sure which ski would be best suited to me, the one luv or the burnin luv.

I am hoping it would be the one luv as they are much cheaper (!) I'm about 5'5, a bit on the heavy side, and mainly ski blues, some reds and the occasional black. I would like to have some lessons this year to improve some more, but don't want to buy burnin luvs if they are too advanced, but don't want the one luvs if I am too advanced for them (however unlikely that is!)

Also, would 149cm skis be ok for me?

Thank you very much  x

First off, welcome to SkiDiva. K2 one luvs vs burning luvs seems to be a monthly question on the forums, so do a search and you should find alot of info.

The big difference I think between the two is the One luvs are softer and the Burning luv's are more stiff. So it depends on your style and preference. I have the one luvs because they were a bit more forgiving than the burning luvs. My friend who is at the same level as me but more brave, she bought the burning luvs.

Hope that helps a little.

Hey Loopy,

I demo'd both in several lengths last year and settled for the One Luv in a 160. While I didn't dislike the BL's (which I was convinced I was going to like better before the demo) I decided against them because it took more effort to get a snap, while the OL's popped for me with minimal push. I called them my magic ski's that day on nothing but NY hardpack and ice. I am a blue/black skier with hopes of mastering moguls this season.

Oh and I'm also 5'5" and right now weigh somewhere between 135-140 lbs. IMO a 149cm may be a bit short for you, I tried the 153's but didn't like the feedback they gave me when I hit the gas, I didn't experience that with the 160's.

I hope you make the right choice for you and you feel as good about your new skis as I do!

Thanks for your replies guys, they're really useful.

I'm leaning more towards the one luvs I think, as from what I've read elsewhere on the forum they are a bit more forgiving, and I think that is what I need. I'm not going to keep them forever but need something that will help me build up confidence and progress a bit more.

I think the problem aswell is that I don't have anywhere to demo them down in London, but want to buy them before I go as buying them (as I've seen them at a good price) will actually be cheaper than renting them so I will be saving money anyway.

Hot chocolate, (or anyone else!) do you think that the one luvs will let me progress with them? I know I won't be able to go as fast as with the burnin luvs but as I said I need a ski I will be comfortable with that will help me get my confidence back as I lost it some years ago on a bad ski holiday!

I ski one luvs - I got them late in the season last year at a really awesome price. They are definatly "enough" ski ... that is, I dont think that you would be getting the itch to get rid of them any faster than the BLs. In fact, when I was in the shop last weekend, buying hubby new boots, we were talking to the sales guy. He was saying there is ALOT of overlap in ski ranges now, what you think is a lower level ski isnt always that "lower". K2 is a PRIME example ...

However, there are difference between the skis. Like HotChocolate mentioned, they seem to be easier to get to shine than the BLs. I like to ski fast, but at the end of the day, its about having fun. For me, the OLs are the perfect combination of fast enough for the morning and responsive enough for the afternoon when i am tired of running fast and just want to have a fun, responsive ride. I dont think that you will be disappointed....

P.S: The OLs also do great on PA snow ... uh ICE

I love mine , they are perfect for me right now. I hesitate in saying that they would be perfect for you because I don't know. You won't know until you ski them....

But if you really feel strongly about them GO ahead and get them!!! Definitely!!!

There is always the gear sell swap thing here if they don't work out just ask SnowHot! :eyebrows:
