:ski: :ski: :ski: HAS ANYONE HEARD OF THE K2 MAGIC LUVS. I AM A BEGINNING SKIIER AND I REALLY HAVE MY HEART SET ON THE K2 FIRST LUV BECAUSE OF HOW SOFT, FORGIVING AND BASICALLY EASY THEY ARE TO MANEUVER. AS I WAS BROWSING THE NET TRYING TO FIND SOME GOOD PRICES, I FOUND THE K2 MAGIC LUVS WHICH HAVE NO REVIEWS OR MUCH GOOD INFO. ON ONE SITE THEY CALLED THEM COMPARABLE TO THE FIRST LUVS. IF ANYONE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT THESE SKIS, I WOULD MUCH APPRECIATE SOME FEEDBACK

Well welcome to the sport of skiing! First and foremost get a good boot!! Your skis are nothing if you don't have a proper fit. After that get yourself out there and demo some skis! You can get some really good deals at the end of the season. If you need more help let us know! We are a great bunch!

Where did you find the "magic luvs". Many large sporting good box stores have the company's make them skis. They look and are named very close to the original. The industry calls them "deck skis". For example Atomic made a ski called the c-9. Sportchek in Canada had Atomic make them a ski that looks like the C-9, but called it the C-9X. The composition of the ski was not even close to the C-9. Just the looks. The X was in the smallest print available. But to go along with tcarey - BOOTS FIRST!!

Boots first ! The next couple of months are the best time to get them. Discounts on this years models avail at shops until the snow flies. Last years models are deeply discounted. If you don't have a pair of well fitted boots by an experienced bootfitter, demoing ski's will be frustrating. You will be fighting your boots more than feeling the skis. Plus, you need to have the bindings mounted & you'll need a bootsize to have them mounted for.

I see where you can get deals for the one luv's for about $179. on a pretty regular basis on the net. And probably at nearby ski shops. I don't believe they have changed the actual ski for several years, so if your heart is set on them & you know what size works for you (demoed & skiid on them) then you should be able to get a good deal on the real one luv's after you find your boots. They'll mount those bindings & set them for you & you'll be ready to go.

thanks a lot

thanks for all the great feedback all. I will now be on the boot lookout. I have heard about the deck skis and i'm not sure if these are or not. I saw them online as well as in a ski & golf store in denver.
I can't find them on the k2 website though and the site is pretty hard to navigate-doesn't give the answers you'd like.:race:

Ditto what you've already heard. Boots first.
You'll find tons of great skis that you'll be happy with but if your boots don't make your feet happy, you'll never be a happy skier!!

Then, let me tell you about the beginnings of a quiver. :ski2:

Yes, boots. Then get skis. You will most likely outgrow the First Luvs too fast. I recommend the Sweet Luvs, which you can find in the '07 version for $319 (including bindings, mounting, and free shipping) from Al's Ski Barn (untracked.com).

I've purchased several sets of skis from them and they do a nice job.

If you post your height and weight, I can recommend a particular length for you. My daughter started skiing on 146 cm Sweet Luvs as a beginner when she was 12 and was 5'5". She's almost 5'57" and is still on those length skis. She's a very cautious skier who gets only about 4-5 days/season, so I'm not changing her ski this Winter although she's grown 2" and gained about 15 lbs. since we bought them....

I am an intermediate/sometimes advanced skier, 145 lbs., just under 5'7" and I ski on 156 and 158 length skis.
