K2 Luv series Advice

Hello Everyone, I am switching from snowboarding to skiing. I need a little advice. I have been snowboarding for 5 years. Greens, blues and most all the time in the West. I usually get a total of 2-3 weeks a season. Since I am not totally new to being on the slopes, I am not sure of "ski level". The skis I have been looking at are K2 True Luv and One Luv. I have been hearing One Luv is intermediate but website says Expert. Help!

I am about your level and just bought True Luv's. I also thought the One Luv was too advanced but the more reasearch I did I found there apparently isn't a huge difference. I have a friend who is my level and she loves her One Luv's.

I bought 153s, I am 5'2", 135lbs.

I wavered between 146s and 153s as the 153s seemed longer than the other skis of roughly the same length I had skied in the past. What made up my mind was the explaination on the K2 website as to how they measure their skis, check out question 22 on this link.

I imagine you would be fine on a 153 or 160.

Looks like the ratings on the K2 website are mistaken? The desgignations of One Luv and Burnin seem to be switched. One Luv should be adv-exp and Burning as exp, right? They should all be in order, and seems mixed up.

I LOVE my One Luv's! Wouldn't trade em' on anything....at least for another few years!

You don't say your weight, which is way more important than your height. I personally have found that in my weight range (and it DOES range!) I need to use the unisex skis in K2s. I've found the women's skis to be nowhere near stiff enough. A low weight for me is 153, and a high is 170. When I was talking to one of the shop guys here about K2's, which I've skied for years, and my experience trading skis with another lady here (they were K2's as well), he ducked while telling me that I wasn't really a woman's size when it came to K2's. Supposedly I wouldn't have that experience with the Volkl Auras when I demo them next month.

It makes it really hard for my daughter and I to discuss ski recommendations. She raced for 9 years, and weighs a mere 115 pounds. Her skiing style is way different than mine (an agglomeration of problems acquired after 35 years of different techniques going in and out of style) as well. She likes a lively ski like the Volkl and I like a damp ski like the K2.

I have skied K2 women skis since the early 80s and I've never had a desire to try another brand. I I really love the K2 women's skis.

You will be fine in the One Luv/True Luvs. You will find them forgiving and fun.

This will be my 5th season on the Burnin' Luvs and I jst picked up the Lotta' Luvs for those bigger powder days. The Burnin' Luvs will most likely be too much ski for you to start.

I'm not sure where you saw your K2 information, but this K2 website has them listed in the correct experience level.

And click on products. There is only basic information about each ski. As far as finding a ski that fits you correctly, you should go talk to employees at a reputable ski shop. I'm 5'2" #125 and ski 160cm on the Burnin' Luvs and can ski all mountains, but in the Lotta Luvs, I went to 153cm d/t it being a more agressive ski and, personally, I prefer to control the ski and it not control me!

Good luck!:ski2:

Have any of you made the transition from boarding to skiing? Did you feel it was a quick switch over or a whole different mountain to climb?:yardsale:

I have not tried snowboarding, but my husband and two of my children ride, so I'm familiar with the gear and style of getting down the mountain. I would think you will feel more comfortable with a wider ski at first, as long as it's flexible enough and not too long for it to "ski you" instead of vice versa. Have fun!

My son made the transition in about three day's he now teaches both. I also have a young lady that I coach for ski team that was a very entrenched boarder. But her Dad and mom wanted her to race, so i got her. By the end of her first season on skis she was in the top three for her team and made second team all league!! Balance and understanding your edges are what makes the difference. I don't have any big problems going back and forth between my skis and boards. I have a more difficult time going from my soft boot set up to my hard plate set up. Alot less slamming on my soft boot set up!!! I only took up boarding when I moved back to michigan (the hills are a little vertically challenged, but fun!!)to give my son one more thing to ridicule me about!!Lol!! P.S. your weight, ability and aggressivness level have a lot more to do with your ski and length selection than your height. Height is almost irrelevant except when applied to tork on your bindings. Both the one luv and the true luv are awesome progression skis both make learning easy!!!

I'll just add that I love K2 "Luv" skis - I have a pair True Luvs (season before they made em fatter) that are just wonderful. They just make me feel confident and while they don't like it when I slacked in form, they tolerated it while I got back in line. Lots of fun and just inspire you to get better and try new things (speed, air, etc). So go for it. :ski2:

(however as some of you might have noticed I'm not limitting myself to just K2s, I've got a nice shiney new pair of Attiva AC3's waiting for me to pull them out... and with all this new snow in new england i'm just jonesing to get out on either pair!) :snow:
