K2 First Luv or Atomic Minx

Hi,

After skiing on rentals for 4 seasons, I'm ready to buy my own skis.
I'm skiing on green, and like to stay in control (no speed demon here). I hope to progress and do blues someday... We ski in NH and VT.

My height is 154cm (5-4) and weight 140lbs.


Our local ski shop guys recommended me to get either
K2 First Luv (146cm) or Atomic Minx (150cm).

Or should I get Cool Minx?

I don't know enough about the K2's and there are lots here who do, but Atomic I know. I'd look at the Cool Minx. The difference isn't too much, but for your advancement in skiing, I would go up a notch from the Minx.

Is there a chance you'd be able to to demo first? Also, do you have boots already? Boots are the most important piece of gear, if you're on a budget focus your money toward boots. Don't buy em online, and make sure to see a boot fitter and let them show you what works for for foot shape and what your proper size is. Don't wanna lecture if you've already got that covered, just wanted to throw it out there.

As far as skis go, for K2s have you thought about the True Luv?

Yes, I've got boots - after trying whole bunch, I settled for Lange Venus 85. Seems to be the best fit so far. The place I bought them from has a "fit guarantee". So if later in the season I don;t like them, I can come back and they will either adjust them or fit me with a different pair.


Re True Luv - I don't think they had them in stock. I'll call the shop to see if I can demo skis. Somehow I did not think about it. Also I doubt that I'll able to see the difference...

Demo - You'll just know if you like them or not. Do they turn easy, do they vibrate at speed, do I have a smile on my face. Things like that. Don't look for anything else and don't over analysis!

Thanks Jilly for saying "Don't over analysis!" I really needed to hear that! sometimes there is so much to deciding on equipment. If you know you like it you know you like it, period.

If you've been skiing a while I'd say stay away from the First Luvs. These are really beginner only skis. I got a pair of Mystery Luvs (similar ski) my first season since I did'nt want to rent. I'd out grown them by midway through my second season (5th time out that year) and upgraded to the True Luv. If you're worried the True is too much for you I'd meet in the middle and get the Sweet Luv. It shouldn't punish you now, but won't hold you back as much as the First Luv will as you progress.
