K2 Burnin Luv

I've seen a few of you mention that you have the Burnin Luv....I'm wondering what you think of it. I'm concerned with ease of getting on edge, turns, performance on hard pack or ice....strictly groomer stuff, though, I don't go off piste. I've seen some fairly good deals on it and I'd like a second set of skis at this point.

Hi

I bought the burnin luv just in January and have used them for about 12 days so far this season. Im not really a technical expert, as until now ive always rented but I'm a fairly good skier (about level 7 or 8) and ive been really impressed with the burnin luv. They turn and hold an edge really well. Ive started carving like I could never do before! They're really good on ice and hard pack. I skied down the Hahnenkamm race run in Kitzbuhel with them :ski2: . There were large unavoidable areas of turquiose blue ice and the skis gripped as well as i think is possible! They gripped well enough that I was able to stay in control the whole way down, on what has to be the worst ice I've ever seen. They've also coped well with moguls and crud.

So for good edges, ice and hard pack but also moguls and cut up snow I'd say they're ideal skis!

Hi again!

I forgot to mention that if you really like speed then the burnin luvs do have a limit. Ive noticed once or twice when shussing/schushing/schussing (ive no idea how to spell that word!) that they are a bit chattery but this is only when I'm really bombing staight ahead at my speed limit. Ive never noticed this in turns.

Hi! i luv my Burnin luv's! I skied them yesterday on hard pack at Sugarloaf, ME. they were awesome, they ate up the mountain, DH couldn't keep up. I haven't had a chatter problem. I ski fast and have found them to be very stable and easy to turn. I am 5'0, 120lbs and I ski the 153's. I ski anything, mostly advanced and expert terrain here on the icey east coast and have skied them all season with no issues. They are great for groomers, I have used them off piste also and they were suprisingly good in the glades and crud but definately best on groomers.

Hi,

I also bought my Burnin' Luvs in January. I find them great for carving on-piste - short or long turns. Edge-to-edge is not a problem, in fact they seem to enjoy being on an edge more than going straight. They are fast, and have done well on the ice patches I've run into. You say you are staying on piste, but for info I've also had 3 powder days off-piste with my instructor - BLs are obviously not built for those conditions, but I'd have to say *I* was the limiting factor and not the skis, and it was still fun. I've noticed the chatter once-or twice, in heavy crud at high speed, but that's it. In general, I am very happy with them for on-piste use, while I am in the market for an additional ski more suited for off-piste/powder.

I am 5'10", 147lb, and ski quite aggressively but am still learning.

When you say they are *FAST* what do you mean by that exactly? For example, I want a slightly more advanced ski because I THINK (not sure) my current skis are a bit too soft and I overpower them in turns. Also, due perhaps to softness, my currrent skis are not especially good turners at slower speeds (but good when going faster). I think I need to raise my speed level slightly (and my comfort level in doing that), although I won't ever be a speed demon! But also, I don't want a ski that uncontrollably tends to go too fast. Does this make sense? So please explain your meaning of "fast". Can you easily control the speed of the luvs?

I also read on another thread that a skier had been trying to improve her turns with the Burnin Luv, but was frustrated with them, and ended up going to another ski (the Drive) for that purpose!

Ok. by ** FAST** I would say advanced. I have not had any problems initiating turns with the Burnin Luvs. I have been able to speed up or slow down as needed but I have found that they turn better with some speed. I ski mostly advanced and expert and generally only find myself on blue or green runs leaving the mountain for the day. I ski at least 30 days a season. I would recommend demoing (is that a word?)them and anything else you can before buying a ski that's not a good fit for you. I actually found this site while researching my Burnin Luvs. I found the other Diva's imput to be right on and very helpful. I also had an entire day to demo them before I purchased them. I liked them right from the start.

SkiGap, just read your post and I tried the Rossi Scarlett's and the K2 Phat Luvs , bought the Phat luvs because my brother ( a ski shop manager - very dangerous) got me a deal on the K2 Phat Luvs I couldn't resist. It was a toss up for me. I used to live in Kuchl, Austria. I really miss the skiing there! I am sure you have had some great skiing in Garmisch.

BKH319 - March has been especially good to the Alps - sadly this weekend will be the last on my "home" ski area, but Zugspitze is still open and as I recently learned, I can ski all summer in Zillertal/Stubaital!

As for the Burnin's being "fast" - I should say, I am faster on them then I have been on anything else. So, they make *me* fast, and I have no trouble initiating or controlling turns at slow or fast speeds. If anything, I'd say they are happiest when turning. I am certainly no expert, by any stretch of the imagination, so I cannot say that what applies to me will apply to you. Good luck deciding!

I love my Burnin' Luvs for turning and carving, but find they chatter when I get up to speed. Perhaps I should've gone longer, but
I'm happy for the most part. (I still can't keep up with those kids in my avatar!!)

I bought a pair of Burnin Luvs last season (2007-2008). I love them. They are quick and responsive and great for normal ski conditions. They are great in moguls. On icy, chunky days or general poor conditions I prefer to use my Volants.
