Question: K2 Burnin Luv 2007

jac

I brought a pair of 146cm K2 Burnin Luvs 2007. I ski at Coronet peak in Queenstown NZ. I about 5.2". These skis just take off on me on the steeper stuff. So basically - I can't handle them.
Can anyone please suggest a good ski that is going to help me advance quickly and confidently? My husband took them for a run {he's an advanced skier} and thought they just wanted to take off on our terrain.

I see you have them listed on trademe
There's a pair of true luvs listed also in Queenstown. Apparently a little more forgiving. R & R are doing a demo day tomorrow at Coronet Peak. You could try a few different skis out. (They demo sundays and weds).
Good luck.

Thanks. Was looking at the one luv with the 74 waist in a 142cm - as the K2s measure the surface. Outside sport rec holding onto the burning luvs, so may pull them off trade me. Have you had any experience with Elans? Liked the Volkls for a while, but they are pretty heavy. Have being skiing on a couple of different Dynastars {intermediate} but they chatter with any speed. Do you have any suggestions please?

Hi jac,
I've had the BL, and you're right, its an advanced ski with some forgiving properties but not as much as the one luv or the true luv, with the disclaimer that you may outgrow them very quickly and then wish you had the BL.

I've had a few Elans. Very nice skis. What are you looking at in the Elan line up?
Volkls are amazing and grippy. I am sure you'll like them i fyou like a ski that gives you a lot of feedback. I do, so I liked them a lot.
Try the Volkl Tierra, or Luna!

Thankyou thankyou thankyou. I have been in luv with the tierra for a long time but havn't taken it for a run. Unfortunately - they don't seem to supply the shorter skis on demo days in Queenstown nz. Also mad keen on the black magic elan. I ski the fall line and usually fairly aggressively. As we have two little boys there are alot of runs on the slower slopes. Need a ski that I can enjoy now and be really cocky with in time to come. Any suggesions would be fab. Cheers

I have no experience with the Black Magic Elan, but from what I understand its a good ski progress on front side carving. My fav was the wave spice. I had that last year, but lost it to my little sister. She is an upper intermediate skier, teetering on advanced, absolutely loves the Wave spice for crud busting, carving and powder. That is a ski that will treat you well when in an intermediate mood, but take you to the Advanced stage of skiing when you call upon it to do so!

Again, look at the tierra if you can. I haven't been on it, but it intrigues me and I think it will be a good choice for someone asking the questions you're asking.

Your awesome. Was rec the Rossi B2 womens last year in QT. Think they calling them B74 now, but the graphics are ugly. Do you have any experience with them. Can't believe the difference in the performance of each model. Advice from people - not retailers - seems to be a lot more helpful. Cheers

I demoed the Rossi B2w, and didn't find it to my liking, but I like a ski with a lot of energy and feedback. The Rossi's tend to be stable, quiet and damp. That is not a bad thing, and you'll find many SkiDivas love the rossi line up, Jilly and Robyn come to mind.

This is why its good to demo if you can.
Even if they don't have the size you want, demo to find out what properties of the ski you like then you'll have a better idea, which brand you like and purchase in the size right for you.
(I'm not saying demo a 170 cm ski when a 148 is right for you, I'm saying, if they have one size up from what you're looking for, try it and see if you like the feedback the ski gives you.)
FWIW, I tend to go longer in a ski length, too. Therefore, I'm probably not the person to give advice on ski length.

Hi Jac
I've skied the Black Magic Elan for the past two seasons and would highly recommend them. Mine are 152cm and I'm 5'4". I ski at advanced intermediate level and had these mostly on piste on hardpack/ice, but also had a few days of good snow conditions, and some trips out West and also one day in fantastic champagne powder.

They are springy enough to give you feedback and an aid into the next turn, but not so stiff that they throw you off balance, no "snap" unless you ask for it - discovered I could do this when I finally found out how to carve consistently! I could not fault them in any conditions, neat and quick in the bumps, smooth on the groomers and could hold an edge well on ice or in GS turns. I found them very stable and not chattery.

I also found I could ski them in any mental conditions, aggressive, sightseeing, distracted, or spooked. I don't now if this is a technical review term - but I considered them to be my friends.

When I demoed K2s they never compared favourably to the Elans. I have tried Volkls and like them too, but they didn't beat my Elans. I'm only changing them cos I've skied them out, and want to find a pair that feel the same plus 10% extra zip to keep up with the big kids.

Plus, I always loved the look of the ski. Sophisticated.

Youre' getting great advice about ski choice here, so I'm going to ask a couple of other questions.....

What level skier are you now? What terrain and conditions are you comfortable in now? Where do you plan to be by the end of the season?

What ski were you on before and what did you like/hate about it?

Have your boots been professionally fitted and have you been aligned and balanced?

What about lessons?

Elan Black Magic vs K2 Burnin Luv vs Fisher

:dance: Today I hired a pair of Fisher RC sport XTR and 152cm Elan Black magics. The Fishers totally sucked. However - the Black Magics were just absolutely dreamy. They float and pop and really give your confidence a boost. Unfortunately I couldn't hire any 146cm and may have to wait 3 weeks for them to come to Queenstown through a local shop, but on the up side they will be the 2009 model with a different cut. So thanks to all the divas and the fab advice.
I should be the proud new owner of the 146cm magics in a few weeks. :ski2::ski2:

Would luv a maid. Coronets been open since June here in NZ. Had a great day on Sunday as it's the end of the school holidays. And just to make you a little more jealous - we have night skiing on Fridays and Saturdays.

She just means that we'd love to see pictures. With the majority of us in northern hemisphere, we're desperate for snow  Congrats on the Black Magics by the way!
