Plastered all over the news. Incredible story. Will have to stand as one of the top stories of '09 -- and it's only mid-January!!

One of the first things that came to mind when I saw this news report was the safety demo the flight attendants do at the beginning of every flight, you know, when they say, "in the unlikely event of a water landing..." I always used to think it was a nice way of saying, "in case we crash into the ocean and you're one of few lucky ones to survive..." I never imagined that a commercial airliner would actually be able to land in a body of water and have everyone escape safely. This is certainly a tribute to the training given to the pilots and their crew and their ability to stay calm and react appropriately under such unbelievably trying circumstances. I mean, how could you possibly simulate this kind of situation (landing a huge airplane in water) in training? Heroes is an understatement!

I agree, MSL. Definitely one of the stories of 2009!

This is SO true! Amazing story.

BTW, I was at work on 51st street when MH sent me this text message: "Plane crash at 48th street & 12th Ave. 150 people."

Thanks, dear, for making me nearly soil myself. Thankfully I was near a computer and got the full scoop quickly, lol.

My best friend works on the New Jersey side of the Hudson and sent me an "OMG!" email yesterday afternoon. The rescue efforts were a moving target, floating downstream with the river current - right past her office building windows!

Of course "terrorism" was one of the first thoughts for many in this part of the country...

No question that the pilot is a hero (and EVERYONE on board incredibly lucky); that was an amazing landing...

According to the paper, pilots do train on water landing on flight simulators. (not that I take everything in the newspaper as truth).

Simulator or not, this pilot is one great pilot. Just ask any of those 150 people on board.
