Just once...

Just once I'd like to see someone pose a question on a unisex ski forum "What skis should I buy for my husband?"

Just once, I ask!

But whoever does it also has to pepper the body of the thread with sexist endearments like 'the little man' and make frequent mention of how you want to make sure he gains confidence and has fun while skiing. Use of the statement 'I know this kinda technical stuff is probably above his head' is bonus points...

I am sorry I did not ask first but I don't need to ask because I already know what to buy my husband.

I bought him a pair of Fischer RC4 World Cup slalom skis in a 160cm with Fischer race bindings last March and He LOVES them.  :yahoo:

I hope that is what you were looking for, a wife buying skis for her husband?

Weekends tend to be pretty dead on both Epic and Ski Diva. We're all out skiing! Give a little time before you give up on your thread.

HA! Also must include gratuitous comments:
1. How you wish he would he would stop skiing slowly on greens and instead join you ripping up blacks.
2. How much he cares about a ski's graphics. Graphics must be burly & manly else he won't use the skis, despite your pleas. Insert "rolleyes" icon.

And don't forget to ask what boots would be comfy enough for him!:D

Segbrown did that (pinto here) and she was a huge success.
I've also done that for my husband and brother in law.

Believe it or not it works well.

Now, if you want to get into the debate that I've been having on epic ..............well, I suggest we just let the lone lieutenant think he's brilliant. Cloudpeak's hubby, spindrift made his point. Bklyn was amazing!

My problem is that I kept replying to him. I shoulda let him go.
Sorry girls, I took the bait.

 Ha! How'd I miss this thread? Love it. Because I have a DH who would still be skiing on his 197 Rossi 7SK's if I didn't research, suggest, and/or flat-out buy his stuff for him (right down to outerwear). Can count on two hands in 30+ years how many times he's done any research or homework. Talk about by-the-seat-of-pants!

So---anyone know anything about Fischer Cold Heat? Not even sure if it's an 09, but he demo'd it and was smitten. Thought I'd indulge him for next season  He'd never do it on his own.

Current skis were an ebay deal, why not - if no good, resell at local ski swap locally in Nov, where we have a great rate of "recovery." Love at first run. Fantastic, perfect. $149. So we swapped (same boot sole length) for a run. I did not want to give them back. Back to ebay for slightly shorter pair #2 (for me).

I seriously do NOT recommend this method of ski purchase, as it is not 100% successful.

Off to research the Fischer...
And in my case, "the little man" is apt :D Several divas already know this. Means zip when in motion, though!

Okay, well, seriously ladies, two of "the little men" in my life need advice....

Let's tackle DH first. HE left girl scout cookies on the counter today. Thin mints. The fragrance is permeating the entire house. It's almost as good as eating some, but not quite. I am, so far, resisting temptation. I fear the first bite like you can't believe.

6'2, about 250, 53 year old. Skis Salomon Screams (with one pepper on them) that he bought from the demo rack at the mountain (don't think he test-drove them) for about three years now. I think they're about 175 long. He says he'd like something stiffer. He's happy skiing anywhere but in trees. Powder, moguls, black, blue (when he must), ungroomed when possible, and he likes speed.

He will NOT want me to pick skis for him: he picks his own everything else, I'm sure he picks his own skis too! On the other hand, he's not much into researching skis, though he'd do all kinds of annoying analysis before deciding that the sky is blue above our house at the current moment!

Yes, the top sheet will be important to him -- it will have to be "cool," whatever exactly that means! Probably not white -- he learned this year that "snow colored" skis are NOT good to have come off when in powder. (mine were hard to find more than a few times) He'll want a "bargain," and he's not a "quiver person."

And then there's Tim -- new son-in-law. He's never skied. Darling daughter is trying to talk him into it for next season. Tim is 6'5, weight????, shoe size 14. Will we be able to find boots for those feet? Is it going to be possible to rent some for him to try the sport before he buys? (I'm guessing that buying boots, he'll be best off early season?) At the getting married, want to buy a house and start a family stage of their lives, they can't afford to buy them only to store them for the rest of their lives if he doesn't like it. Things like gloves, goggles, even jacket, we can lend stuff to get him going, -- pants will be a challenge! I think the rental skis will do him for the first season -- or at least until sales start coming around again!

Suggestions for either delightful dude would be SO welcome!

Maybe I'll go do some more laundry for a while now -- get farther away from those cookies!

OK, let DH try a pair of Salomon X-wing's, maybe the Toroando's or Fury. This is the line that replaced the Screams.
As for DSinL boots - and yes next fall first thing. Althought the teen-agers that show up at the store I work at seems to be 10-12, 14 could be a challenge. So shop early. Skis could wait till he decides. Maybe he and DH can do the male bonding thing(?) on the slopes.

heh...good luck with Tim. My son also wears a size 14. If you want I can go look at his boots and tell you what the shell size is. I found them on ebay a couple of years ago and grabbed them right up. Probably not the best fit but he has never complained. Maybe he realizes it's either th boots or the box they came in? :p
