junior skis

It's time to get my twins new skis and I am hoping that all the gear divas out there can give me a little help.

My twins are in between level 6 and 7 - probably more 7, not particularly aggressive. The can ski all blues (bumps and groomed) and all groomed blacks just fine. They occasionally like to go through the trees or into bowls.

They are 13 years old , 4' 8" and weigh 72 lbs. (They are "vertically challenged" like my hubby and myself - and are just starting puberty. Note- it is pretty awful to be the shortest kid in the eighth grade, especially if you are a boy!:( )

Most of the stuff I see for Juniors is for beginnner - intermediate and they are better than that. The other things I see are for kids who race - and mine don't. They will get 15-20 days skiing this year - most of it in Colorado.

You have a couple of choices.

1. Buy. With kids that can get expensive, especially since they are twins, you cannot do the "hand me down" thing. Most expensive.

2. Rent. Do a seasonal rental, a good shop should be able to set them up with a seasonal rental in the $100.00 per kid range for the whole set. Best Value.

3. Combo. Rent boots for the season and buy skis from Ebay. Will take the most time and effort to do right.

We have a buy back program here where I get 50% of the cost of the old equipment towards purchase of new (or used) equipment. The season lease here for boots/skis is about $175.00. They have very narrow feet and it was hard to find boots that fit well (I think they tried about 4 different boots last time.)

I would prefer to seasonal rent if the price were a little lower, but with the buy back equipement purchase it doesn't cost much more than renting and it will be newer and fit better.

I just didn't have any idea of what types of skis to look at for them at out local shop. There doesn't seem to be much variation for junior equipment. I'm okay with used equipment as long as it fits well. I want to be able to distinguish among skis that might be available at the shop.
