Ski Diva Extraordinaire
So I have already broken out the ski magazines and the ski movies and have been haunting TGR looking at pictures of ski adventures in the Southern Hemisphere. Anyone else?
As soon as late August rolls around, the hiking side of my brain gets quiet and my skiing side gets very noisy. . . I am usually one of those people trying to decide whether or not it's worth using a Colorado Pass day to ski the one-run *ribbon of death* at Vail on opening day in mid-November (I usually decide "no," and wait for the big snows a couple weeks later.)
However, I have a big, big pregnant belly and a due date of November 12th, as well as Christmas commitments in the South. Guess I won't be hitting the slopes until January! And even then, in limited capacity.
My son will be three in January, and I am determined get to the mountains some, though, so he can try ski school (he was up on skis last winter, at 26 months) and I can get a few turns in. I suffered through a lot of complications when he was born, but managed to get out for a few days, late in the 2004 season-- he had his first lift ticket at 11 weeks! (He came up on the gondola, so we could ski in shifts and I could breastfeed.)
Wish me luck in getting out there this year. . . I am sure the other moms on this forum know that getting to the hill at all with young children takes truckloads of patience and determination. Now I will have two in tow and a ski season full of breastfeeding, and I know this is going to be a challenge. Skiing is my sanity, though, and I know I am going to need a little sanity time this winter! :p I think I have conned my parents into a ski week with us and the little ones in last February, though, so I might just have a week of fun while my non-skiing mom has a week with the grandkids!
