jerks on the lift

OK so, I went to Keystone yesterday and spent all day practicing bumps, groomers, powder, everything... it was great!

One bump run I was on was directly under a lift. I had a bit of a mental block and stood there for a few minutes until I got it back together, no big deal. I was clearly visible to all other skiers and I wasn't blocking any lines as I was stopped in front of an obstacle marker. Of course the people on the lift could see me, and these two guys started making chicken noises at me - "bawk bawk buk bawk!" like I was chickening out.

I'm fuming about it still today. I don't understand why ANYONE would do that. Don't they remember what it was like when they were learning to ski?

However, I have to say, because of jerks like that I WILL get better and someday I WILL be skiing circles around them.

Anyone else every encountered something like this? I was shocked.

It's Keystone and therefor I wouldn't be surprised. I know that sounds bad but it's the one mountain where I see the most attitude from other skiers/riders. I've not had it happen to me but if I were on the lift with the guys I probably would've smacked 'em!

Sorry that happened to you. I wouldn't be surprised if you could ski circles around those jerks now.

Haven't encountered it chicken sounds, but they sound like idiots. Personally, I'm not a fan of when people on the lift crack up loudly and heckle when someone wipes out. I understand talking to your friends about people, but loudly ridiculing potentially injured strangers to pass the time on the lift is just immature, in my opinion.

I was riding the quad with three younger guys (who I don't know) a few weeks back, and someone wiped out under the lift and another person skied over and asked if the fallen skier was okay. The guys on the lift started hooting and hollering about how the fallen skier couldn't get up, and laughing about how the fallen skier needed someone to stop and check on them. Ugh, wtf.

Yep. At one resort I frequent, happens all the time - even people knocking snow off their skis/boards to fall onto the skiers/riders below. At another resort I frequent, never. More a "nice turns, dude!" kind of vibe. I've seen empty liquor bottles getting tossed from chairs onto runs at some places. Redefines one's need to wear a helmet.

Yeah those are the guys that tend to be the ones power-wedging down the double blacks and talking to each other about how 'extreme' they are over their lunchtime keg-can.

Basically, don't sweat it, they probably don't have the ovaries to go down a mogul run anyway.

I would venture to guess that these LITTLE men have LITTLE ....well.....never mind. :becky:

3 words...low self-esteem

Don't give them the satisfaction of even THINKING about it anymore...unless you are thinking about ways that you could send them that information on "ENLARGEMENT!" :becky:

(Mr. NVG is laughing his head off at me as I write this!) :ROTF:

Ha... @ the ovaries comment. Yeah they were your typical gapers actually now that I think about it... the plaid snow jacket and pants type wearing guys. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I guess wherever you go there you are!

Had one of those experiences recently - got "Honey if you ever make it down, I'll take you out to dinner".

To which I'd reply "Great, we're headed to Dish in a few then" (Dish is my favorite restaurant in the world) and then get down just to prove a point. Oh, and then I'd order a damn expensive bottle of wine to boot.

Whoa on the plaid jacket line - don't judge book by cover -----one time I was doing some jump spotting and video for some riders at a park below a lift. Some dufus dumps a load of snow on my HEAD by whacking his skis together on the lift, and those riders below just pummeled him with snowballs  They had good aim, too!

I've been known to heckle a fall or two, but in an admiring way, know what I mean? Like "woo hoo, nice yard sale!" and usually the faller looks up and laughs and gives us a thumbs up or something. It's all in fun. But the nasty ridiculing comments are completely inappropriate.

Ooo, I've seen people not get up from yard sales. About the only thing I can manage to say when someone crashes under the lift is, "Are you okay???"

Well give me some credit, lol! If it's a nasty one, naturally we don't applaud.
For sure. I know the fun ones you're talking about, where the person is totally laughing when it's over. Those are fun. Done a few myself. Thankfully NOT under a lift! (Yet. First time for everything.)

Usually one can tell from the way of the fall if the "victim" will be alright or not.

I'm not above shouting "that's a 9.5" at them. Sadly, not everyone understand...or is that a midwest thing?
