Saw Jeannie's presentation last evening and signed up for a one/one "fitting" with her. It was eye opening for me. I had no concept of how much I was supposed to be able to flex the boot. My boots (first pair) have been problematic all along. But now I understand/feel the difference between what I've been using and what it's supposed to feel like. She predicted my skiing would dramatically improve! Needless to say, I very highly recommend her presentations/clinics.

Ski Spirit, Isn't it great when you have an opportunity to sieze an AH, Hah! moment. I'm eager to hear how your 1/1 goes with her. I'm going to bet it'll be a great experience.

SS, when you see her, be sure to tell her you're a Diva! I interviewed her not too long ago, and I know she thinks highly of the Forum. Please give her my regards.

SD-- I mentioned to her that I had found out about her trip through this forum and that I would go back and post how eye-opening my experience with her was!!! For any Divas who have not had a chance to see a presentation or better yet have a one/one meeting with her, I very strongly recommend it. I've been seeking quite a bit of advice because I had so many boot issues/pain last season.........but NO ONE has explained/shown me how the boots are supposed to flex/how they should feel/how easy it can be to flex them and to be in, inevitably, a much better balanced position......its all fits together when you can see it. I could feel my old boots holding me immobile...outright preventing me from flexing as I need to!

FYI, I know this tour is geared toward sales. I didn't buy boots on the spot because I have an appointment set up with a well known (male) master bootfitter but Jeannie wrote him a note to explain what we had found and how well I was able to flex the Lange boot.

She also said something about the sweet spot on the Dynastar ski (because of the binding position) being under your foot. On my Volkl Attiva S2's the sweet spot is definitely more forward than that.......and if it's hard to flex my boots enough to get that far forward easily...maybe that's one reason I don't consistenly find the sweet spot......this may sound silly to those of you who are more experienced but when I do find the sweet spot, it's glaringly obvious because I am so totally in control (speed doesn't feel like out of control speed...w/in limits). So, I will definitely be demoing the Dynastar Exclusive Legend which Jeannie recommended and I will really be looking forward to trying out the boots/skis.........

Volkl women's ski have a feature that allows the binding to move forward or backwards. If you are to far forward have a ski shop move the binding back and see how they feel.

Take your skis to the master boot fitter so he can look at the position of the binding.

Thanks LL, I will take the skis in and ask him to look at the position of the binding.....and will also demo the Dynastar and any other skis that might be recommended!

I highly recommend Jeannie for anyone who is struggling on the slopes or who hasn't bought new gear in years. She will enlighten you. As an ex-attendee of one of her clinics, I can say my skiing absolutely skyrocketed! Last time I saw her, I gave her a huge hug. She deserved it!

I'm going to check into this, or have any of the Canadian diva's heard about Jeanette Hamer from Kaministiquia Ontario (somewhere near Thunder Bay) She does these clinic for Jeanie here in Canada.

Too bad you didn't get to attend her clinic before she was hired by Dynastar/Lange. She used to do a 2 1/2 day thing where she and Tom brought in a huge U-Haul full of skis and boots from every manufacturer for demoing and all the skis had movable bindings. She did her regular informative clinic on Friday night, then ski on your current stuff on Saturday, then boot fitting, then binding moving and demoing, then semi-custom footbeds (you could get custom too). Lessons on-going all weekend, then on Sunday afternoon, she made you go back to your current stuff without any alterations. Wow!

That's how I got my first custom footbeds, learned about heel lifts, found out how important demoing can be, and discovered I don't prefer women's skis or forward mounting.

I took her gear clinic at Whiteface about 5-6 years ago. When everyone returned back to their original stuff, they cried! Too bad she doesn't do these clinics anymore, only the seminar now.

Well, this is exciting! I've joined this forum just in time to find out about this opportunity! There's my town listed, right there at the end of November. I'll have to call the shop and ask for details, then schedule life around the event!

(so I'm reading a lot of old threads here...)
This is interesting. I'm surprised to see so much support here for JT. Many of the articles I've read by her had such a condescending tone that I was really turned off to pursuing anything further that she had to offer. The whole "now you don't' have to quit at lunch time" kind of thing just never clicked with me... oh well, glad to hear someone has gotten something out of it...

Hmm. :noidea: I don't find Jeanie to be condesending. I have however found her to be a great source of inspiration. I literally have taught thousands of women skiing. And in the early 80's ( when I started teaching), many of them were "done skiing at lunch"!!! Mainly because they were exhausted fighting their equipment!! I feel very blessed to have naturally good alignment, and to being very athletic. Racing and skiing on Unisex equipment was never that much of an issue for me personally. Unfortunately that isn't the case for a lot of students. And because of the lack of equipment selection for my female students their opptions were even more limited! A great number of the Ladies that I taught were struggling, (and most of it was their equipment). Which unfortunately translated to "giving up!" or worse quitting. They just couldn't get past that intermediate hump. After all why struggle with something that is so expensive and making you miserable? They were struggling mainly because their equipment didn't alow for their body conformation and muscle mass. You don't have to be over weight for your calves not to fit well in a pair of boots. Yes I was one of those instructors folding mini pads and trail maps to make heel lifts to try and increase their ramp angle, or ankle shims to snug up their heels. I was frusterated watching them (students) fight their boots. I also carried duct tape wrapped around thin plastic shims for under their boots to make cant strips. Most womens calve's ARE shaped differently than a man's. So are our ankle bones and heels. And you don't have to be unfit or underweight for it to be difficult to bend your ski. A women's femur is longer and most do have a greater " Q" angle. Not all women need to ski on women's specific equipment to ski well, but alot of women do. Jeanie forced manufacture's to sit up and take notice, to pay more than just lip service to designing equipment that was specifically for women. Prior to Jeanie Thoren's foray into ski and boot design. Women's equipment was basically a color choice not structural. When Jeanie started making her own adjustments, she was already a VERY accomplished skier! Make know mistake she can walk the walk, and talk the talk. She has a great deal of empathy for women who are struggling to make the turns that they want to make and she has dedicated her lifes work to helping them do that. I associate the words understanding and sympathetic with Jeanie not condesending. Sorry didn't meen to climb up quite so high on that soap box.
