It's official - I'm certifiably nuts!!!

We just got back from a long weekend in CO and I now believe you can put me in a padded room. Nine of us went to Breckenridge on Saturday and despite discouragement from the ticket office we bought lift tickets. Temps were in the single digits and winds at the top were 108mph. Very few of the lifts were open. Who besides someone who is nuts would ski in those conditions. But..... we had the place to ourselves and had a blast!:D

Conditions were better on Sunday - still windy but not to the point of closing lifts. Monday was perfect - temps in the 20's, no wind and bright sunshine.

Anybody else ski in conditons that would keep most people indoors?

Yup - its called January at Tremblant. Its usually -20 C with wind chill much lower. You dress up and ski 2 runs, go in, ski 2 runs, go in, etc.
And like you said - get the place to yourself!!

I can take the cold -- it's the wind I hate. All the same, we've had below zero wind chills this week in the Northeast, and the skiing's been great. The cold temps keep a lot of people away, so the mountain's been pretty empty, which I really, really like. And if you dress for it, it's not even that bad.

I must be nuts, because I demo'd skis in -35 deg wind chill on Friday!!

I have heard that sometimes if it is too cold, traditional wax doesn't work. Did that have an effect on your demo?

Yes, wax and temperature can have an effect. But we're not racing and looking for time. Your skis can actually "stick" in cold temps.
