Ski Diva Extraordinaire
I'm a contrarian. I get cringey about obligatory Hallmark holidays and things like red roses on Valentine's Day. I prefer novelty and random or joyful acts of love and remembrance and appreciation over obligatory holidays. I do realize you can love and do both. I'm just not that ambitious.
For instance, every week, we celebrate Clean Sheets Day. We do a little dance of happy.
I randomly Zelle my adult grandsons $ with memos like "Happy Sushi is on Emma Day" or "It's You Gotta See Disclosure at the Theatre Day" or "You Need a Pizza Day!" A new one each time. (I taught them both to ski, ride bikes, and paddleboard so I already rock, these are just a reminder of how much.)
But my personal favorite holiday that is not, but should be, a holiday is New Skis Day(s). I bet I'll get a lot of agreement on that here with choir.
Last season on Happy New Ski Day it was a Black Pearl 97s. I wanted a groomer friendlier ski. I never fell in love, but grew to like and respect them. Turned out to be a bit too wide, but solid. At that time, the ski shop salesperson tried hard to talk me into the Elon Ripsticks 88s -- her favorite ski and she raved about them. But she skis groomers almost exclusively, so I took a pass. But I remember how enthusiastic she was.
So, it's 104.7 degrees on my balcony right now and that's with 2 large market umbrella up shading it. At near a mile high altitude it's this bloody hot. It's been and gonna be this hot for a good while longer. The reservoir is about as low as I've ever seen it. Brown and crunchy hillsides. Icky.
There's nowhere outside to enjoy, so for a mental escape, I've immersed myself in thoughts in winter. Pictures of winter. Planning for winter.
Hubs and I have reached a new level of acceptance that the years of endless powder are behind us even in Utah. And all we have are powder friendly skis.
Today, hubs is sitting across from me and says, "Honey, I think I found a perfect new pair of skis!!!! Come see!"
I came, I saw, I bought. Elan Ripsticks 88 on their way. And he got the new Elan Ripsticks 88 Black Edition -- it's new this year and stiffer for more aggressive bigger skiers.
Now I think we should have waited until next week to order his so we could have had a second Happy New Skis Day.
Look out groomers, Emma gonna be ripping!
