It's Father's Day!

So let's take some time to recognize the great dads out there who do it all for their kids.

Mr. Ski Diva , for example: a terrific Dad who's always put his family first. There are few kids who consider both their parents --- not just their moms -- their best friends. Our daugther is one of them. Jon has always been an incredible father -- fun, supportive, understanding, and encouraging. Did I get lucky or what??? :becky:

And then there's my own dad, too. After all, he's the one who introduced me to skiing!!! And look where that got me!

Anyone have special Father's Day plans???

I am spending father's day with my father, who is actually sitting next to me at the moment, working on a Sudoku puzzle. My husband (who is also a father) is here as well. He is waiting for 5:30 pm when Tiger Woods tees off at the US Open. He plans on watching it on TV. We are also going to spend some time this evening having dinner with friends. BBQ burgers and strawberry parfaits are on the menu!

Happy father's day to all the happy father's out there . . . But remember, if it wasn't for your mother, would your father be your father? So, remember your mother on father's day. :D

I'm close to both of my parents, but especially my dad!
When I was growing up, my constant questions drove my mom crazy but my dad took me with him to do all kinds of cool stuff.
One of the best compliments I've gotten was when I met someone who said, "You remind me of a guy I know from Manton" I said, "I'm from Manton" His reply, "you're Jack's daughter aren't you? The apple didn't fall far from the tree."

I am most definitely my "Fathers Daughter"
Happy Fathers Day Dad!

Well, I kind of have 3 dads. My real father, with whom my relationship wasn't great as a child but we've mended that and he's been really great the last few years. He's my athletic mentor and I can only hope at 62 I can do half the things he does.

My step-father has only been that since 1999 but he's been just as fatherly to me as anyone could ask. He's a cheerleader, a supporter and he wants nothing more than for me to reach my dreams. He made my move back to Colorado happen and for that I could never repay him.

My uncle. He's my local dad. He is always willing to help whether it be with advice or gear or a home away from home in Vail or Boulder.

I'm so thankful I have so many wonderful fathers in my life!

I'm not spending father's day with my Dad because he's 10,000 miles away...

But this is nonetheless a happy day for him, sort of. He's been dealing with several health problems at the same time and it finally cleared up. So he's now talking about travel and such, and he may even come to visit me again next year.

I'm very happy for him. He was quite an athlet in his younger days and was my main supporter for all my sporting activities. Thanks to his support and his gene, I'm able to bike, hike, ski, kayak today. Well, he gave me more than just sports. But that would be too long to list. In short, I'm proud to be his daughter.

My niece is hosting a bbq for all the dads tonight:

--My dad (her grandpa) who is 92 and who exemplifies the 'greatest generation'. He was in the Iowa National Guard with Ronald Reagan, was an officer in the 42nd Rainbow Division that marched through Germany and liberated Dachau.

--Her dad (my bro) who is a great father of four great kids (and an amateur comedian---so we will have plenty of yuks.

--Her uncle (my husband) and a loving father of three of the greatest kids (the best ones I ever had, he likes to say).

--Her other uncle (her mom's brother) who is a single dad of two boys.

And dogs and kids and cousins and who knows how many others---so it will be as usual, chaotic, and fun.

I'm in charge of the margeuritas. Ole.:wink:

happy fathers' day indeed!

I couldn't have a greater dad! we have so much fun together! my friends don't believe me that I talk to my parents as many times per day as I do, but my folks are SO GREAT. my dad even came to my wedding shower last weekend -- it wouldn't have been half as much fun without him there.

I'm so proud, and so lucky.

I don't celebrate Father's Day with my father, since I grew up not celebrating American holidays and he's not into it. He's been a major influence in my life. While he doesn't fit a traditional image of supportive, positive, loving, or any of that stuff and is a bit of a beast, I know he cares so much and while he doesn't convey things in terms that are easily digested, he's taught me the most valuable lessons in my life. Though we don't celebrate Father's Day, he's appreciated day after day, year round.

However, 4 years ago I started celebrating Father's Day with/for my brother. He's a single father to my 4 year old niece, and he's very westernized, so the day means something to him. Today was thoroughly exhausting, but a lot of fun. We went to the Sox game (), and though we sadly lost, we played some great ball, the weather was great, and he had a really good time. After the game, the kids (niece and my 7 year old brother) were able to run the bases. Family, White Sox baseball, nachos and lemon chill. What more do you need?

Spent the day with my husband, who is father and stepfather to our 3 children. He received calls and text messages from the kids in the mid-west and the local ones made cards, then took off to spend the day with their dad (DH is stepdad to our local kids).

Saw my ex-husband last night when I dropped the girls off and gave him a hug and thanked him for being a great father to our daughters. He smiled a lot and seemed pleased at that.

Called my Dad today to say I love you and thanks for being such a great dad. He's 83 and divides his time between midtown Manhattan (NYC) and Florida with his girlfriend who's in her 70s and has property in both states.

I feel blessed to have these Dads in my life!

The first time I ever skied was with my father at the local country club after a new snow. He was on (what I now know were) alpine touring skis from the 1940's. I was on hand-me-down skis strapped to red-rubber-boots that I wore over sneakers! I was four or five at the time and although so much has changed since then I still love skiing and I have my father to thank for that.

This thread is very touching.

My dad's not with us any longer, but was a great influence and always supported me in the sporty stuff I've always liked (funny because my older brother was not sporty). He always went to the softball games, played catch in the front yard, tossed me grounders to field, played "touch" football with the family on holidays. He did a lot of skiing with us too, even though I'm not sure he always loved it. He was in the army air corps during WWII and was stationed in Alaska and used to ski there. He worked his butt off his whole life, for us. Miss ya, dad.
