****THOSE OF YOU IN THE NORTHEAST WHO ARE STUCK IN AN OFFICE CUBICLE SOMEWHERE, KINDLY LOOK AWAY****
Don't say I didn't warn you.
Nope, no pix. Who has time for a camera? Besides, I'm notorious for never having one when I need one.
The day started off pretty bad. First, I woke up with a bad cold. Plus a migraine. But one look outside at the first big storm of the season, and I knew I couldn't stay home.
So I get my stuff together, drag my sorry self outside, clean off the car, dig it out (I think we had about 6-8 inches at the time), load up my skis and drive d-o-w-n the snow-covered hill to the snow-covered main road, make my way slowly, slowly to the mountain, get there, no one's there so I get a great parking space, plenty of time til the lifts open, open up the back of my car and find ---- no boots. I LEFT MY BOOTS SITTING ON THE PORCH WHEN I CLEANED OFF MY CAR!!!!! So I get back in the car, back on the snow-covered road, back UP the hill....you get the idea.
Finally, finally, enough horsing around and I get to the mountain. The lifts have been running for half an hour, so it's not too bad. I have my Queen Attivas, which I'll be skiing on for the first time. I think -- wouldn't it be a kick in the pants to get all the way to the top after all this horsing around and find out I hated these skis.
Which I didn't. They were really fun. A good choice for the day. To be honest, I would've preferred the Nordica Conquers I demoed last week, but I got these for around $250., so I can't complain. They're 119/87/111 with 20 m turning radius, very light, forgiving, energetic, easy to turn, don't mind the occasional icy spot, good in the thick stuff, good in the chop, go through the powder like butter.
Anyway, the conditions were awesome. Lots of fluffy freshies, lots of open terrain, no one around because no one wanted to make the drive up from New York or Connecticut or wherever (unlike me, who drove to the mountain twice in one day; then again, it's not far). The Queen A's were great -- lots of fun and a good ski for the day. Wish I had my camera, but at least I had my boots.
It's still really snowing, by the way. I think we have a foot so far out of this. No telling what the final tally will be.
