 Next stop, ski season! Temps are starting to drop (especially at night), there's a hint of fall in the air, I even spotted some trees beginning to turn. Yippeee!

I was curious to see what some of the first threads were from a year ago, and found this thread! It is a gorgeous day in Southern New England today, crisp air, bluebird skies, lots of gold and red leaves still on the trees surrounded by dark green. At this point the anticipation is fun and I feel patient as I await the snow. Once November comes and the leaves are gone and it's colder, then I'll start to get jumpy for snow to arrive.

I dropped off my skis (and my daughters' skis) and our new boots at a shop in Southern VT yesterday to get the bindings adjusted and tune the ones that needed it, and bought my 8th grader a new snowboard. Her first one is too short and the boots and bindings were really entry level (which was appropriate at the time) but gave her some painful days on the hill last Winter as her skills progressed. I got 10% off the '08 board, 50% off the bindings (they were from '07), and 10% of the '08 boots and she loves her new set up and says the boots are super comfortable so I'm really happy for her (as is my credit card company LOL). I just know that she's going to take off this season, as is my 11 year old who got new skis a month or so ago (she outgrew the old ones), this time twin tips! She wants to follow Mommy into the park....:eyebrows:

Anybody else doing some pre-season errands and/or shopping?

First mountain snow tonight

Snow in UT mountains tonight! Termination Dust (end of summer). Will melt right away, but it's a sign that winter is upon us.

Summer is on the run, at long last.

From Solitude this morning: the maples are red and a chill is in the air. :ski:

(posted also on meet on the mountain thread---I'm so excited, I'm double-posting):snow:

I am not so much doing pre season chores yet as enjoying what is left of this season. Being on Long Island I have take out the full wet suit and am still water skiing. I am hoping for a November that lets me water ski at home on Long Island and snow ski at Whiteface all in the same weekend! The closest I've ever gotten is doing both sports in the same month in the same state (NY)!

I know this is a ski forum, but I have to say, I'm having a blast on my bike and on the golf course.
However, ski dimensions are running through my head more and more. It must be getting close to ski season.

I'm glad it's fall too. I especially like being able to sleep with the windows open and no noisy air conditioner running! And yes, fall is just that much closer to ski season.
I did enjoy an afternoon at the beach yesterday, though, and even went for a nice swim! It's still pretty warm in southern RI.

We had our last Dragon Boat Festival of the season this weekend. The temps were just great for it. Also it helps when you come in second and take home a silver medal. But the scenery on the way there was beautiful. I love this time of year out on the water. So I'm bit like May Tee (and welcome Diva!), but I needed to take my winter rain gear with me just in case. It's fall and I'm wearing a Descente rain poncho during a thunder storm Saturday AM because its the best waterproof thing I own. Somebody asked if I had my sports mixed up. No just borrowing from the other season. But that it for festivals, we still have practises if we want to go. I thought I'd keep it up till Thanksgiving (which is October 8th for us in Canada!). Then it into winter mode because the ski show is on in Toronto the next weekend!! As my friend JB signs off his messages - THINK SNOW!

I am also still waterskiing in Iowa. I'm still in just a neo top, but I think the full wetsuit will be used next time.
I got to snow & waterski one week apart last April. 1st Saturday at Snowmass, 2nd Saturday in the slalom course behind our club's new Ski Nautique.

I feel that fall definitely snuck up on me. Its been a busy summer, and almost did not notice that it was fall already. I went for a ride on Saturday and looked around, and saw all the trees in red and orange, and was like, whoa, its fall! Then the temps dropped this weekend, and now I am definitely in a winter kinda mood.

I was out biking yesterday and got caught in a storm, and decided to start heading in when it started to hail on me. I could almost swear that I saw a few flakes mixed in with the rain. (wishfull thinking most likely).

THis weekend, I will be welcoming winter in by watching the Park City premier of the latest TGR film. Too bad it is going to warm up by then, a ski movie plus cold weather would really put me in the ski mood!!

Oh my goodness. You have air conditioning????
For me it's dehumidifier in the basement, and open windows and skylights elsewhere. Plus fans when it gets over 90 degrees.

After living most of my life in the south (Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, North Carolina) this New England weather is a breeeeeze.

It's mostly for my husband. We never had it growing up, but he's a fanatic. In fact, we often have battles before bed, with me opening the window, then he comes in, closes it and turns on the A/C, then I wait for him to fall asleep and turn it off and open the window again..... get the picture?

Sounds like my house, except opposite. We've comprised at 74 deg during the summer. Its been off for most of month. Last night it would have been nice, humidity was up. But tonights low is 13/57 degs, so it'll be nice again. The leaves are just gorgeous around here. This next week should 100% colour. :D

Jilly, your post really made me homesick. Life near the beach in RI is nice, but the Laurentians will always be in my blood. What I miss most is the time at my little cabin, no one else around except moose, birds etc, walking my dog (off leash) through the woods and coming home to a nice fireplace and a good book. Fall was so wonderful up there with all those colours reflected in the lake. Sigh.

That's the cottage/home in the woods, to me too. But, work involves life in small town Canada, near a great beach though!! I'm 20 minutes away from the Sandbanks Provincial Park in Prince Edward County. I want to do a wine tour this Sunday. Tour the back roads where the colour is beautiful and try some wine at the same time. We've got the newest wine region in Canada on my doorstep and some of the stuff isn't too bad!

Speaking of water & snow skiing, one July 4th while I was still living in Oregon, I water skied all morning on the Columbia River then drove up Mt. Hood and snow skied all afternoon @ Timberline. Such fun!

That's so cool. My trip to Portland/Timeberline this summer really made me want to move out there. I was talking to some teenager on the lift who was like, "Whoa.... I can't imagine living somewhere where snowboarding isn't... like... a year-round activity!!"
