Help Needed: Intuition liner for Lange boots?

GeoGirl

Hello there,
I love my Lange RX 80 LV boots and they initially had great heel hold, but my right heel is now slipping around so my foot is jammed forward in the boot and I can't control my ski well. I've only skied about 15 days in them! I'm looking at options for replacing the liners but am a bit overwhelmed. Should I get one with a tongue or a wrap style? Any suggestions on Intuition styles that might work? If the boot is on sale for $200 at Evo should I just wholesale replace the boot (eek seems like a waste)? Any advice would be most welcome!

Hi there. Before you start replacing anything, do you have custom footbeds? If not, start there because they will support your foot and keep you from slipping forward. If so, and you have a boot fitter, go back and see if some simple pads of some sort will help. What worries me a bit is that liners don't pack out in 15 days so that implies that something is wrong with the fit of the boot itself and intuition liners won't solve that problem. If you don't have a boot fitter, maybe someone here can recommend someone. Where do you live/ski?

Hi! I have superfeet green insoles in the boots. I live in downtown Seattle, WA and ski near there - Stevens Pass and Summit. I don't already know a boot fitter - I was thinking of going to REI where I bought the boots and seeing what they thought?

Definitely start with a boot fitter. REI is just a store - a great store- but they usually don't have boot fitters. A specialist can take a look and see what's going on with your current boot. @Christy this is your neck of the woods. Any suggestions?

A good bootfitter can add padding to fix the liner. An intuition liner may not fix the issue if you have very narrow ankles. I ski the rx110 with the wrap godiva liner, a custom footbeds, an added sole, amd a heel riser and tons of foam around the ankle to get a snug fit. I have a 24 foot with a 21 ankle! The godiva by intuition is super warm and comfy.

Hi @GeoGirl -- if you are looking for a great fitter in Seattle, try Jim Mates/Custom Boot Service. He's on 65th in Ballard. https://www.custombootservice.com/

There is a fitter named Kelly Timmons who was on the World Cup circuit for much of his career and now he is a fitter just for Lange boots. You can find his contact info online in various places. My husband has seen him many times. He's a bit of an enigma. You may or may not have good luck getting a hold of him.

I have Lange SX 90s and I have the same problem w/ my right foot sliding forward and crunching my toes. My boot fitter made pincher/crab claw piece to hold my heel in place. He'll just replace it as I wear it out. I had control of the ski but I was yanking my heel back into the pocket and putting myself in a deep knee bend and killing my quads.

I asked on the other website just to see what the WA locals would say. They recommended Jim Mates also. Just go see him and follow his advice. You will be happier in the long run.

Thanks for all the advice ladies! The Seattle REI flagship store is apparently better staffed/stocked in the ski department than REIs usually are. A ski section specialist put some padding around the ankle bone on the outside of the liner. It seemed to help, and I'm looking forward to trying it out! If my boot turns out to need more tweaking I'll definitely look up Jim Mates - he's not too far from me at all.

I recently went to Sturtevants in Bellevue for new boots. They didn’t have the Lange Rx110 lv I wanted (had tried on at another store previously) but really liked The Nordica ProMachines too. Went back next day ready to buy them but one of the fitters named Mark said that while it’s a good boot, he thought the Lange Rx110 lv and the Tecnica Mach1 lv, both of which they didn’t have, would be a better fit for me. Mark spent two hours with me, analyzing my feet, alignment, stance, etc. I went home and ordered the Langes online and brought them to the store for them to fit me. Since I’m new to the area, I went there based on a friend‘s referral. I really liked that they were super helpful, knowledgeable, honest and friendly. I’ve only skied them three days so they may need a little bit more tweaking, but so far they’ve been pretty good overall.
