Ski Diva Extraordinaire
Wake up Saturday morning, 7:45 AM. Definitely groggy from the Snowmass Chili & Brew Fest and Stephen Marley show the night prior. Blue bird day...very nice. So we pull our lazy asses out of bed and try to recall where we've stashed our gear since the closing of the lifts. The shed! The closet! "Where are my goggles!!" We tried to hurry along. We called our buddies and off we went. Stashed one car over the other side of the Pass (leadville side) and drove us all back up to the summit. The summit was like a tailgating party for what...I don't know. It was crowded, sunny and it looked like we were in for a treat. We planned to ski down from the peak of this photo: (look at all that snow!)
So we begin our trek, here's me...on the way up. To our right were dudes w/ snowmobiles pulling folks up...jealous!!
Almost to the summit...OH NO!! We got to the peak and a HUGE slab slide went right before our eyes...here we are almost there, before the slide:
So, deciding today was NOT the best day to die, we started our descent...
Then in the distance, we see a group of 3 guys & a dog...hey, they look like they know where to go!! Hey wait...that's our friend Jon!!
So we skied the "Fourth of July" bowl, aptly named because you can normally ski there until then...Here's the line we skied:
Unfortunately there's a big river to cross here and the only way to go...well, is to just go. Let me tell ya, ski boot rushing river crossings are an interesting end to a very interesting day. Especially when our car was on the OTHER side of the Pass. Luckily, the gals stepped it up and hitched rides to the summit to collect the cars. Also, luckily finished the adventure with JUST enough time to shower & get to work. Ugh!!
Fun fun!! Skiing in June!! Next time, we will leave much earlier in the morning so we can ski before the temps warm up too much and the slides start happening.

- For all its lure/attraction, SO glad you all had the good sense to walk away. Well, there's always Snowmass this weekend? Recent post made here re: its reopening.
