Hey Lil Mtn Girl!

As far as I'm concerned, you couldn't have picked a better kind of ski. I have been a volkl girl going on 8 or 9 years now. I skiied my first pair of G31s and wasn't the same since. I bought a pair of volkl attivas from one of the ski divas on this website this last spring and absolutely love them! I hope you have lots of fun on them and rip it up!

There was a demo pair at a shop downstate for sale and I tried to talk hubby into buying them for me but he thought they were overkill for Michigan :noidea:

first day on my mantras and all i can say is . . .

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i love this ski!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's stable and solid, turns like a dream, busts through windblown snow (no crud to test today :D ), and sooo responsive -- all i have to do is THINK about turning, and there i am, mid-turn!!!

bonus: for such a big ski, my legs aren't even tired -- AT ALL!!!

i will definatly write a proper review after sufficient time skiing them, but so far, so good!

i feel your pain, volklgirl . . . they are a sweet ski . . .
maybe you'll have to convince your honey to take a trip to bc so you can try them out :D -- in some powder :eyebrows: !!!

There's nothing like that new ski feeling! Glad they're working out so far.

Did you get the Women's Mantras? Do they make a women's Mantra?

My sweetie got the men's and he totally rips on them & loves them too.

OK wait, now I'm curious. That's a huge ski. My boyfriend is skiing the same ski...he's 6'1" and probably about 200 lbs.

Are you built similarly? Just curious cuz that sounds like a LOT of ski.

i think the womens version of the mantra is the aura . . .
and there's diffinately a big difference in the two skis!

i demoed some auras, but found them too soft for my liking . . .

although i was a bit concerned about the length at first, i'm REALLY :D happy i got the 177 -- i'm only 5'7", 150lbs but i find them a really turny ski (they look intimidating but have lots of sidecut -- 133 in the shovel to 96 in the waist!) and definately really fun!

and i'll be sure to write a proper review once i ski them more!

i think altagirl has the mantras as well (and loves them), i wonder what length she skis?

if your sweetie has mantras maybe he'll let you give 'em a test ski :eyebrows: ???

Mistake #1 - Listening to the husband!:faint:

Yeah never listen to your man!!

Hmmm. Test driving the man's Mantras??? Not a bad idea!! He may think otherwise. I've got what I like to call my "big girl" skis - the K2 Nancy in a 169. I'm 5'8" 155. They're great so far - taken me wherever I've needed them to go. They lose a bit in the "turny" department, however. They are a very fat ski with more sidecut than the Phat Luvs. But I tend to use them on soft days, powder, where edge is less of a concern. My B-Luv's are my other ski. But I find since I've coined the Nancy my "big girl" ski - I'm usually grabbing them from my car. Like it's a challenge or something.

Soooo...maybe the Mantra will be a nice end-of-season discount purchase. I'm still searching for my 3rd pair!! Volkl would totally be my choice too.

If the Mantra is anything like the Karma, 177 is definitely not too big. I even skied hubby's 185 Karma and found them to be waaaay more stable than my 177 and only the teeniest bit lacking in short turn versatility.

Yeah, but he's the primary bread winner, so I'd be spending his check and I think he should have some say in that (yes, I know I'm stupid :-) )

I bought Mantras for my sweetie's birthday last year, and I scored big-time! He loves them, and will skis them every chance he gets.

I hate to throw a monkey wrench into the operation, but before you buy...............
Demo the 179 Bro.
I've been reading a lot about skis in that class, and the bro is beating the mantra in that class of ski........hands down.

Marshalolson in the denver area has that ski available to demo. I plan on taking them for a spin when I'm out there in two weeks.

Info here:
For Denver, contact maggot marshalolson (aka marsha) at Green Mountain Sports at:

Here's the thread where I discuss the possibility of me getting on these skis, over on Epic.

Damn you SnowHot!! lol

Well I work in Aspen for the Mountains, so demo days are super cheap for me. This will be one of many demos, for certain. I don't think they have the Bro. 179 sounds so intimidating...so does the 177. I can't wait to check it out!!

Mantras tomorrow. If those rock, I'll def. try the Bro. Thanks for the info.

I have to fine tune the details with marshal, but I'll be demoing them when I go there.
Very excited!

What's up with this "Bro"???

Nothing on Volkl's site about them. I googled & still can't find a picture or anyone selling them...

confused!

Ski Diva Extraordinaire
hey skigirl,

i had never heard of the Bro either . . .

i've never skied them nor know anyone who has skied them, but a company called PM Gear makes 'em -- try google 'bro ski' and you should get a hit to their website.

it appears that they make them in small batches on demand, so i don't know how easy they'd be to come across.

other than that, don't know much about them . . .

if you get the chance, demo -- then report back to us :becky: !!!
