For me, its this coming weekend's dinner party. All our ski friends are getting together this Saturday for a "Chili and Bad Ski Movie Night". Yup chili, beer, wine and "Willi Bogner's Fire and Ice". Well we did see that last year, so maybe Ski Patrol. Its a great night with friends. After that its packing to go up to Tremblant on the 23rd!! I'm skiing the 24th - yah!! :yahoo:

Mtn biking, of course! :smile::smile::smile:

Just came back from a 2 hour ride in the woods. Great views, great company. Can't ask for more.

In the summer, I'm usually too busy road riding. Besides, it's pretty "buggy" in the woods till August, and then, it can get hot...

Another plus of mtn biking in cold weather is, I'm wearing so much stuff to keep warm. Armors don't feel hot or cumbersome any more!

Buying new skiis, of course! I have been skiing on my Dynastar Exclusive Carvers for 4 years now. At the end of last season, a good friend of mine who is a REALLY good skier told me it was time to get a more "robust ski". I've improved significantly during that time and he felt I needed something for wider turns and a faster pace (my husband doesn't get it - he says I ski fast enough as it is for my age!).

So, I went down to the ski shop last week and bought Atomic Sugar Mamas and new boots.

I can't wait to try out the Atomics. If anyone has any info or opinion on them I'd be grateful. Wish I had found this site before I bought them!

PS: I loved my Dynastars but am looking forward to a change.

Our Wedding Planning! Yikes!

Our wedding website tells me we have 20 DAYS left until the wedding!!!!! LET IT SNOW!!!!!!!! :snow: :snow: :snow: :snow:

I'm so excited! 5 days of hanging with friends and family and skiing (I HOPE!!!!) galore! We can't wait!!!! :yahoo:

(If there is just a little bit of snow....that's fine!)

Running. I basically think of how strong my legs and core are getting for skiing. Is this cheating?

Also, today I went to the Energy Efficiency Global Forum and picked up carbon flourescent lightbulbs that Philips claims will last 9 years. I just replaced some bulbs in the hallway lights, but I hope I'm not still living in this little apartment in 9 years to see if Philip's claim is true.

I skied four times on the Sugar Mamas last season and they were wonderful. They performed superbly all over the mountain. Turns were peppy. They were great cruisers. Good choice, you will love them. My local ski shop sold all of their demo Sugar Mamas last season---almost every time, the lady purchased the skis at the end of the day. The manager has been in the business for years and told me he's never had a rental with such a high purchase rate.

I skied the Mamas four times last year and absolutely loved the experience each time. They were a fun ride; I will buy a pair this season. The ski shop manager turned over all of the demos last year---many of the ladies that rented a pair bought them at the end of the day. They did well in all conditions--frozen crud, groomers, they performed. I'll be interested to hear how you like them. I predict you will LOVE them.

Thanks Jilly,

I have 10 days booked at Big White in February so they should be lots of fun there I think.

I'm hoping to get to Tremblant the first week of January. I'm originally from Montreal and my sister has a cottage about 1 hour north of Tremblant. Here's hoping for gobs of snow !!

Happily becoming even more of a gear ho than I already was.
I have overlapped and over purchased ski gear this year. Anyone want a deal on a pair of skis?
I need to sell a few!!!

I've been taking a ski/snowboard conditioning class for the past 4 weeks, twice weekly for 1 hour. It's kicking my butt! This is the last week coming up, and after that I'll try to keep up my fitness level with my regular work out at the gym.

Between work and kids, I'm keeping busy, but skiing is definately first and foremost in my "play" mind. I've started my obsessive checking of snow conditions and weather at various locations in the Northeast and out West, and I've blocked off my mid-week ski days in my work calendar for this Winter. Thanksgiving weekend is almost here and I'm taking a cooking class for a gourmet Thanksgiving meal on Tuesday night to get some new recipes and tips as I'll be cooking for Mr. SNWL and all of our 5 kids (the mid-western kids are flying in on Tuesday 11/20 for the rest of the week).

My first scheduled ski day is 11/27 and I'm hoping the conditions warrant a trip to Okemo to ski with none other than Ski Diva, who I had the pleasure of meeting this past Saturday when I ran some errands in Ludlow, VT.

And that, my Diva pals, is what's keeping me going~

The mountain biking is AMAZING right now. I don't even want it to snow yet.

(ducks for cover).

But seriously - we had an amazing trip to Moab this past weekend, I went riding locally twice last week... the weather is perfect. Usually we get very little spring and fall here - it goes from winter to blazing hot summer in a week or two. So the extended fall weather where it's the perfect temperature for riding is really, really nice.

Jilly, going back to your original post - what a great idea !!

The worst ski movie I've ever seen (hands down) is called Copper Mountain, with Alan Thicke and Jim Carrey. It's touted as one of Jim Carrey's first movies.

It is awful - I haven't even been able to watch it all the way through it's so bad (of course I had my SO in the background the whole time saying "why did you buy this?"). Easy - I had a friend who was going to Copper Mountain that year and it was only $2.99 for the DVD !

Here's what it's about: Bobby Todd (Jim Carrey) and Jackson Reach (Alan Thicke) are two carefree bachelors on an adventure to a Club Med ski resort in Colorado. Their mission: to seek out beautiful women and to fulfill their wildest dreams. Bobby is the jokester, insanely funny but with one major problem.....meeting women. Jackson is the flamboyant playboy (Alan Thicke? give me a break.....) in pursuit of his ultimate personal goal, the World Pro-Am Ski Championships. But he must first race an overweight bartender to qualify.

Also features appearances by Jean-Claude Killy, Rita Coolidge and Ronnie Hawkins.

It's as if someone filmed it on their home movie camera. I have to admit, it is interesting to see the ski fashions from the 80s. The boys were obviously just looking for some Hollywood studio to fund their ski vacation or Alan Thicke productions needed a tax write off!!

Maybe I'll finally watch the whole thing leading up to ski season !!

I've have to see if Liz has that one. After a couple of drinks it just might not look bad. I do remember hearing about it, so maybe she has it.

Mountain biking season is still on for sure!

Fruita last weekend and some awesome local riding this weekend (although I'm so sad I didn't go to Moab :( ) I've also been wasting time looking for a new bike. :eyebrows:

I've given up on being frustrated about the lack of snow and I've just been enjoying the perfect temps.

I agree for the most part! I had a great summer of Mt biking. If you would have asked me about switching gears to skiing a few weeks ago I'd have said, it was still mt biking season, not ready for skiing yet, but now, its time to switch gears to ski season.

Where I am, it's about 10 degree warmer than where you are. So it's still great mountain biking time for me for another month.

And then, family stuff gets busy and skiing will only go into full swing after X'mas/New Year.

On the other hand, because airline tickets needs to be booked ahead of time, I'm in that mode right now: dreaming and scheming for snow time which will only happen much later, in "prime" season. That stops me from wasting my money and vacation time on ice and slush, and save them till it's REALLY worth it.

Heh - I had the rest of the money I needed to buy my season pass in hand....

...and then I looked at the extended forecast and spent it on the pre-order deposit for my new bike.

Oops.

But I am selling an extra pair of skis and that will mostly make up for that...
