I wouldn't be able to get out and ski if it weren't for.....

I was skiing, took my lap top and was going to check in from time to time, besides a few ebay items were going to end during my ski day and my husband demanded that we check them:p

This quote from another thread got me thinking about it. My laptop is the only thing that makes me able to get out and ski sometimes. If I didn't have it, I wouldn't be able to get any ski time in a day that I have grades to turn in, or students registration to approve or plenty of other work things that don't take very long, but have to be done at specific times and if I didn't have a laptop, I'd be stuck at work when I could be out skiing.

Is there anything that lets you get out of the office/house and on the hill?

I'll second the laptop and the internet, in general. It's what's allowed me to work here in Vermont instead of in PA, so I can be closer to where I like to ski.

I'd have to add my season pass, too. With a pass I'll go on marginal days -- days I wouldn't go if I had to pay the day rate (sometimes these turn out to be the best days of all!). Also, if I can't ski a whole day, I can still get out and take a few runs without feeling like I'm spending a fortune.

Funny.
The technology can be blamed for tieing us down but in reality we are out doing stuff that we would otherwise have to stay home to do.
For instance, I am taking fruit orders for our church school fundraiser while I'm skiing

A few years ago I'd be at home taking orders instead of on the hill skiing with brief breaks to check on the orders.

:bump: I was going through some old threads and found this from waaaaaay back in 2007, before I moved to Vermont full-time. Anyway, I thought it'd be fun to bump it up.

One of the things that make it more possible for me to stay out on really cold days is my Hotronic boot warmers. I don't think I'd be able to take those single digit or below zero days without them. What about you?

My boot fitter. I used to be in so much pain.

Snowmaking technology. Without it, there would have been no skiing in my local area for the last 3 seasons. A cabin in the mountains is also a huge assist. A exhausted as I am most Friday nights, it's worth the 3 1/2 hr drive to avoid a 4:30 AM wake up on Saturday!

So true. Last Sunday I was at Keystone all day. The traffic was ridiculous. I went back to my condo in Breck to shower and wait out the traffic. I didn't leave till 9pm. I probably wouldn't have been willing to go to the mountains at all if I hadn't had that out. (Summers are actually worse than winters for traffic here ...)

I would second the snowmaking. Were it not for that my ski season would be very short. As fantastic as last winter was, snowmaking was necessary to get the ball rolling to start off the season.

Things that make ski season easier are

1) having a friend who's parents have a home in VT and works at Bromley so we have a free place to sleep and free lift tickets, wouldn't be able to ski vermont as much as we do without this.
2) Through our ski club we are members of the CT ski council which provides us discounted skiing all over the northeast as well as discounts on lessons at our home mountain.
3) We also get discounts at our home mountain for being pass holders.

These things aren't dealbreakers but they do make it much easier for us to ski as often as we do and for these things we are forever grateful.
