I want to ski this weekend, but. . .

Ski Diva Extraordinaire
. . . I have two small children, and my usual kid-watcher-while-skiing is not so much wanting to watch my kids this weekend.

The snow is SO AWESOME right now for April, and the majority of the lift-served season is ending, and I've only gotten in 15-16 days so far. (Which, I will admit, is better than 3hrs last year, with a breastfeeding newborn and a 3yo). Oh, and this is the last time DH could ski with me for free (Copper) this winter before he disappears into various airports until May. Pouty, pouty, pout. Poor me. :(

Somebody better get some in my stead this weekend, and post about it! :eyebrows:

And why does my *usual-child-watching-in-case-of-necessary-skiing* enabler (my mom) not want to watch my kids? Well. . . .

Primarily because baby #2 has turned into *death wish baby* who climbs on everything and gets stuck everywhere and breaks lamps and breaks picture frames and tries to break his head. My mom is wanting a little *break* from dealing with his antics (in conjunction with a 4yo who lately speaks almost entirely in a language called Whine.)

Witness below, the majesty of *death wish baby,* in action yesterday:

I was cleaning, and I heard crying. So I looked around in the family room and initially didn't see anything (because who would look IN the bookshelf?). . . and there he was. Angry as all get out. He'd dragged that chair in from another room while I was vacuuming, used it as a ladder, somehow wiggled over those horizontal books without knocking them on the floor, squeezed in behind them and turned around. . . and then gotten FURIOUS when he realized he was stuck and didn't know how to get down. And that was only one of several *interesting* places he found to get stuck yesterday.

Sigh. I want a break from him too, this week. He makes me  :ROTF: . . . but he also makes me  :faint:

I'll think of you while I'm in Sun Up Bowl at Vail

Briefly, of course, but it's the thought that counts!

Think of me on Cow's Face. I like that run! :becky:

Gina, which day will you be at Vail? I'm there Sunday with the Bears from Epic, you should meet up!

Mollie, really wish you could join us! But, that pic of DS is fantastic! :D

Get out the CC and pay for Day care at the slopes!
This chance to ski with DH is priceless!

There, you can say you have been ordered and then give me all the credit or blame, which ever needs to be piled on me. :eyebrows:

Gina & Robyn...remember to "look" and hopefull not "hit" my ski if you decide to do Lover's Leap in Blue Sky Basin! I called lost & found today...no luck yet!:noidea:

Mollmeister: I can understand how frustrating it is to have a "death wish baby". My duaghter was very similar..ok, at the age of 24yo, still is! The picture, though, is hysterical!:ROTF:

Unfortunately, Death Wish Baby is the one I really need to deal with, and it's usually a lot harder to book daycare last minute than ski lessons, because of the caregiver to child ratio. And late season, a lot of the caregivers have started to head home. So when I called yesterday, it was looking like wait list. I am thinking I might put us on the wait list anyway and see what happens. If they end up being able to take us. . . it is a sign!

But I am trying to be *good,* too. We have spent SO much money on lessons and childcare this winter, even with grandmas to help, that I am feeling kinda guilty. Skiing with kids is appallingly expensive!

I always feel poor by March, lol. :( :eyebrows: Even though I hate the departure of ski season and the beginning of hiking season, it's probably a good thing. Time to build up the cash reserves for those 08/09 Auras and some ski vacations NEXT winter. :becky:

That pic was too funny. I had flashbacks to when DS#2 got stuck under our armoire. He has a very large melon so it made getting him out difficult. It was :ROTF:  :nono: all at the same time.

Hopefully, daycare will call and say you're in and you'll be able to hit the slopes.

Remember a happy mama is a good thing.

Yes, we should be there Sunday, who/what should I look for?

Awe, I'm not quite brave enough to do lovers leap yet, but I'll alert my cliff hucking friends! I'm really sorry about your ski, I've been following the thread!

Oh, boy, he looks and sounds like a handful! You have my sympathy--but damn, he's a cutie!

We're meeting at Golden Peak near the lockers at 9:15. Large group, I'll be in black helmet and either a black or black and tan coat and black pants.

that is too freakin funny! And I do like the way you thought of taking a picture of DWB before rescuing him LOL Now there's a mom after my own heart.

I CANNOT imagine why your mom wants a break! LOL

Mollmeister, take heart. The will grow up and it will get easier. My kids are now 11 and 14 and stepkids are 12, 14, and 20 and honestly, it's a blast. Some people don't like teenagers, but I do and find them to be pretty interesting. I don't pine for the days when they were young, that's for sure. :becky:

It's so exhausting being with the little ones who have no attention span and have so many needs. They can be like little energy vacuums. I hope that I enjoy that phase better when I'm a grandparent 'cause with 4 daughters and 5 sons, I expect to have a lot of grandbabies!

Your pics, BTW, are precious! And definately get those Auras. You'll love them.

I sympathize with you. Those pictures are hilarious and horrifying at the same time. How the heck did he do that?[/URL]

It is entirely unclear at this time. But he does make me laugh, at the same time he is making me go bald from tearing my hair out. This one is a comedian, a contortionist and a climber. Which is, admittedly, funny. Most of the time.

A future park rat!

Now, about the Fisher Price telephone hanging out of the toy basket: do they still sell them? We still have the one I loved as a tot ... it was wooden. They look nothing like the phones of today. But the best toy ... the little smiley on the dialer...

In fact, a few years ago, I was in an antique store with my daughter, and there was a red table phone for sale (in an ANTIQUE store? yikes).
DD: "What's that?"
Me: "A telephone."
DD: puzzled face, starts poking around on it
Me: "We must buy that."

So, it's an old-fashioned phone, with the old staccato ringer and the full dial. No good for voice mail etc., but the kids now know how to use it.

We also have TWO turntables. And use them! (Luddites, I know.)

Hilariously, yes they do.

I couldn't resist, when I saw it in a hip toy shop. I totally remember it from MY childhood, and I thought the kids would be puzzled by it. They were. And are.

Good eye, btw. :D

Wow, that's usually where we start our day. I'll look for a large group if I can make it there. I have white pants and a black northface coat with white stripes:
