Agreed... I think it was worse last year in this regard, if that's possible, but still really bad this season. I occasionally have it pick up the surface as "rough", whereas last year it was pretty much never. That being said, it still most often thinks crud conditions are "smooth" which is annoying. I don't pay attention to scores on those days because it's not at all giving a fair assessment of your skiing versus the tougher conditions. And it's certainly pointless to get tips when it thinks you are on lovely snow when you are actually on that stuff. I actually don't know if it scores you differently when on smooth versus rough snow, but it sure seems like they should take conditions into account somehow.
I'll agree on this too...I'm pretty much giving up on Carv for these types of days. I'm currently still recording them (because I don't take the sensors off my boots, and I always have my phone on me anyways...so why not?). But I'm also not learning anything from those days from the metrics or Carv's instruction, so I'm really not giving the numbers a lot of thought either.
This part is greatly improved from last season even though it is still not fabulous either... but last season it almost never picked up on this. I'd ski moguls and it would say "smooth"! lol Funny thing that happened last weekend, at the top of the North Peak chair you know how there are some bumps under there for a short section before the cat track to Escapade? I skied under the chair a bunch because it was actually in good shape and I was lapping T72 and 3D... the last bit of bumps before the cat track I just went mostly straight over since they were pretty small and just flowed nicely to absorb each and keep going... Carv picked it up as powder multiple times for whatever reason lol. Definitely no powder there, but I guess it thought I was getting some float going.
3D has had the best bumps I’ve found recently too, it’s been skiing nicely! I lapped it last weekend. I’ve gotten a few random powder scores when skiing bumps as well. Those are the ones I really wish I could change in the app.

Tom Gellie of Big Picture Skiing also recommends that skater drill. Gotta give it a try.
