I Purchased CARV

Apologies if this has already been asked, but is there a CARV footbed? It doesn't look like it on the site, but I could swear I saw something somewhere online w/an integrated footbed with sensors. Am I nuts?
Thought the footbed was the original carv, then they switched to the boot sensors. But I have not researched on it myself, another diva told me about her footbed a few years ago.

Agreed, the first iteration was a footbed that had sensors in it but now they are sensors that clip onto your boot instead. I think a lot of people, like me, refused to deal with footbeds because I already have a custom footbed and enough alignment issues without adding other things like this into the mix. I think the new sensors definitely have the ability to reach a wider audience of willing users by not being inside of the boot, that is exactly what started piquing my interest last year when I heard about the upgrade.

The 1st version of CARV did have an insert inside the boot - a deal breaker for many with well fitted boots. CARV2 changes all that and now has small sensor units that fit on the outside of the boot on the boot strap.

The V2 CARV is an attachment for the upper cuff of the boot. Mine goes on my power strap.
I'm not sure about the original version with the "in the boot" however, the one my husband used seemed to be okay because it went under the footbed and your hotronics should work.

@SnowHot , did the hip get fixed??
I have been doing PT and it's much much better. Still cranky if I get lazy about my PT workouts and I still do things that irritate it from time to time.

Getting old isn't for the faint of heart.

Thanx for all the info, Divas. @SnowHot - glad that hip is being more cooperative!
I woke up this morning with a cranky hip, but I used the hot tub and did my stretching, which made it okay, but I can tell this is going to be a day to stay ahead of it. I also put some lidocaine cream on the affected area. It happens about once a week.
I feel good about having an affective plan of action when it flares up.

Not anymore. They got rid of it in Version 2.0 which dropped last year. Now it’s just sensors you attach to your boots. They claim it’s more accurate b/c it’s an improved algorithm. I only started using it last year, so I can’t compare, but I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to seeing how I can improve this season.

Looks like this years version of Carv will drop in early November. The website has a preview of new features. One of the bigger changes is that they changed how they do Ski IQ so that you don’t have to stop every 10 turns to get your best number. Now you can do an entire run without stopping, and it will pull the data from your best turns. I saw an interview with the Carv guys that Big Picture Skiing had on their YouTube channel and they said the data showed everyone was frequently stopping, and they themselves would do it when they skied, since even they found it hard to get a good number for an entire top to bottom run. I know I was definitely stopping a lot because of it, and my snowboarder DH is very happy about this change! They also added the ability to focus on other areas of skiing in addition in carving, with additional options for short turns, moguls, powder, and parallel for those more on an intermediate level. They say the snow surface detection is 30% better. Very excited to try all these options!

I’m super excited about this as well! Especially skiing weekends where I do, it can be very crowded and tough to get full runs in where you are not suddenly needing to maneuver around people etc. So if a run was feeling great especially early in the day with great conditions, you wanted to stop and “lock it in” so to speak. It’ll be nice not to have to think about that and just ski when you are working on Carv. Also hoping the snow detection is better because it rarely picked up terrain and conditions variety for me and absolutely like the idea of being able to work on other types of turns besides carving as well. We’ll see how it goes! I had a blast with Carv last season and definitely improved my carving, I’m looking forward to doing it again.

I would be curious how you end up liking the new version. Please share once you get a chance to check it out.

I for one can not wait for the new carv algorithm to go into effect. I may be able to use it and record some good skiing even while teaching which is super exciting. I did not like skiing to a tool, as I feel that tools should serve us not the other way around. I confess that by not stopping for each section that I would intentionally ski well, I won't truly know which turns had what scores as it will only be at the end of the day that I will have a chance to review the runs and when I ski the same run sometimes over 7 times, I probably won't remember the minutia of which specific skill was best on which run. Still, this could a be a very welcomed improvement over an already interesting product.

There's a YouTuber called AngelinaOutside who posted a Carv review last year that I thought was worth watching and covered many points. I thought it was an excellent video. Here is a link to her video in case it is helpful.
On a related point, Angelina is the only person who I have ever met through YouTube. I commented on some of her videos, and when she came to my town on a ski trip, we met for laps. It was really fun, she is the same in person as she is in her videos. Very genuine.

Very helpful. First video I've seen that documents real world applications and the positive and negative attributes of the product. It has helped me evaluate whether or not to make the investment.

Ok. I did it.

For those of you existing users who do real time w/CARV. What type of earbuds do you recommend? I have a couple of "sport" earbuds (Bose & Beats) with behind the ear security, but I don't know if they will work well under my helmet. Any "low profile" bud recommendations?

I just used one of my JBL ear buds. Nothing special, no secure attachment, just insert and listen. I seldom use the live feedback, but attempted wearing my phone in an upper pocket with volume on and that was a no go for me. I personally never ski with both ear pieces in as I like to hear ambient sounds as well.

Ear buds sound so very uncomfortable to me for skiing... I have the Outdoor Tech audio chips in the earpieces of my helmet and they are the best imo! I also think it's better for hearing around you on snow since no ears are blocked and you can keep the volume low enough to hear around you on all sides.
