I Purchased CARV

I left my CARV on today while skiing with @mustski and crew.
I didn't really work on my IQ but I want to see what happens in varied terrain and I'm actually pretty pleased.
My IQ was as low as 109 and as high at 128 and I skied trees, bumps, chopped snow and only a handful of actual groomers.
I was glad NOT to know how crappy my skiing was today … though it did get better as the day went on.

You were actually skiing way better than you give yourself credit. Don't be so hard on yourself.

While we were demoing with the guys at CARV at Crested Butte, one of them showed a segment from his own run and it was a cat track.
I asked about how that affects IQ and someone(can't remember who) in the grou suggested that you NOT carve but just ski straight on cat tracks then start carving when you get off it again. I don't know how or if that will impact the IQ but ....
In my case I was making pizza turns the whole way down which again is why I'm pretty certain that something went totally wrong with the app in terms of how it scored that segment where I had zero G's. On wider cat tracks I have definitely gotten some pretty nice scores in the past.

They finally gave me a reply and it turns out that it was a calibration problem that gave me the false High score. The issue has been fixed within the application and they requested the date in order to remove that particular segment. It took a while but the company is extremely responsive.

Oh good, I’m really glad to hear they came through and you will get to have the score that’s been bothering you removed!

I still have a love/hate relationship with CARV, but yesterday I got more feedback from the data that is helpful. I have had a really difficult time with solid turn initiation and edge angles. I bought some Atomic Cloud Q12s recently and boy did they tell on me! So, I threw some 3mm heel lifts in my boots that I had in my bottomless bag of boot stuff. In addition to immediately feeling a solid turn initiation where the fronts of my skis weren't doing the windshield wiper move, my edge angles increased by about 4 degrees! I still get higher scores on steeper terrain and crud, which is comical. I am quite sad that I have made this discovery with just a few weeks of the season left.

Is there a better way to get feedback than the ding at each turn. I wish it would say something at each turn. My turns felt similar but the left turn was always not good.

I wonder if there is a more interactive mode in legacy.

I like to use monitor mode instead of live coach - so no dings but the actual score of the metric I’m focusing on.
I also like train with an Olympian

I’m very active in our local carv community here in Salt Lake City - we get together and ski - if anyone wants to join us hmu and I’ll invite u when we go
That’s awesome! How did you start getting together with your local Carv people? I’d love to have that option at my home mountain, but I didn’t think there was any specific way yet to connect with people from Carv if you don’t know them already.

ETA: I just made a post in my local mountain’s Facebook group trying to connect with other Carv users there. I’d love any tips on how you got started with the local Carv community and how/what you do for get togethers etc. Would love to start something local next season, even just to share tips and get together on occasion. I’ve also put in a comment to our ski school with the desire of having some instructors using Carv within lessons. Not sure that will do anything, but I’d love for an instructor to be able to give me tips on how to use my metrics more effectively for the exact things we are working on in my skiing etc. and any tips on how to make that couple of points jump to the next level that I have not been able to achieve myself yet would be appreciated!

Where are you located ? I might know some ppl there and can connect you. Btw if you look at the latest carv YouTube video about improvement - u will see our group around minute 6 till the end

I arrange some meetups through fb (I also started “girls who carv” fb group to connect us more and talk metrics and tips and meetups

It’s so much fun to ski with others who use it and I plan more meetups - maybe if you ever come to Utah we can plan something

I mostly ski in Maine, at Sunday River.

That's amazing, I'm so jealous of all that you have going on there. Is the girls who carv group for anyone on Facebook or just local? I would definitely join if that is open to all.

I was in Utah this January for Diva West and do hope to get back there at some point again.
