I Purchased CARV

Well, I should say, my husband purchased CARV for the both of us this season. I am looking forward to testing it out. I think he senses my lack of enthusiasm for skiing this season and is trying to get me a little more excited. I am thinking that if it does anything, it will keep my brain busy focusing on what the app is telling me and not external stimuli which really mess with my overall skiing.

Anyone else use it, or plan to buy it? I will give updates as I begin using it this season.

I purchased CARV2 as well. Looking to improve my skiing and confidence. I tore my ACL 4 years ago and it has definitely gotten in my head at times. I'm hoping it will help in both of those areas. I'm also very much a data person which is why I think I will like it.

Looking forward to the start of the season.

I've been thinking about purchasing the Carv 2 A LOT recently. I was always intrigued by the general concept but didn't want to put stuff in my boots. Now that this version just clips onto the boot I am more intrigued. Seems it would be fun to use especially on days I am skiing solo.

I bought Carv 2 as well. I tried the original Carv many years ago, right after it was first launched, and was frustrated because I couldn’t translate the data and the advice the app was giving me into actual improvement to my skiing.
I am curious to see the changes to the product, especially now that the device can assess skiing on ungroomed snow.

The ungroomed snow part makes me want this even more! Hadn’t even seen that part. Looks like I need to go order lol

Following along mostly for professional reasons and to advise friends who consider investing in the system. Also, curious if this will reduce the need for lessons, as most professions are slowly being sidelined. That is not a judgment, just an observation. Might be a wonderful tool, especially for the introverts who love skiing and improving.

I do a seasonal ski lesson program, and don’t really anticipate it would replace that for me. Though I also get other stuff out of the program I do including camaraderie and line cutting privileges on weekends. I also love to have interactive discussions on technique with my instructors, ask questions, etc. For me, I think this will be fun on those days I’m on my own skiing and want to work on stuff…. which is quite often too. I am usually just going by how things feel and think it’ll be nice to get some feedback at those times, especially off piste.

This is definitely something to think about--my hope is it improves skill sets across the board. I know instructors who work with it and their students. I don't think it'll replace lessons for beginners or lower-level skiers, and higher-level skiers don't take lessons at the same rate anyway. I'm interested to see how my husband, being an instructor, feels about it.

My sense from reading threads about CARV on other forums is that the people who use it a lot generally haven't been paying for lessons, and don't intend to in the future. Those that use it the most seem to enjoying speeding down groomers more than they go hunting powder in the trees.

Well, but the previous iteration was only really useful on groomers. They got a lot of feedback that people wanted to be able to use it on other terrain and conditions. So it’ll be interesting to see if this demographic might change with the new model.

I would love to see instructors who would be open to working with Carv. I would love to see objective data in addition to their feedback, that would be such a powerful tool to enhance instruction.

If anyone else is thinking of buying it, there is a “refer a friend” option that gets you 25% off and signs me up for prizes! I just saw this when I connected my sensors.

I thought they do already work with instructors.

I can't see this replacing in person lessons. Knowing what you need to work on is one thing. Knowing how to work on it is something else altogether for most skiers. Using it in conjunction with an instructor seems ideal-- a way to get feedback in between lessons. But the instructor is still needed to give advice on how to move your body to get the desired result.
